Default Weight reduction - bumper reinforcement & brackets

Hi,

I'd like to lose some weight from the car, and these two items interest me:

21 Bumper, rear reinforcement and brackets
20 Bumper, front reinforcement and brackets

I read if I remove the suports, the bumpers may sag, but that there is a replacement, that I guess weighs less than stock.
How much weight can I lose replacing the front and rear suports with the lighter weight versions, and where can I get them from?

Thanks for the help,

Paul.

Thanks for the heads up ndfrsd6, I'll give them a call. How much weight would I lose with the swap??
Also, I'm considering removing the sound deadening, is it easy to remove (is it all under the floor carpet?), and how much weight would it save? (I want to keep my carpet)

Thanks for the advise...

I'd like to see the rear support. I need to put a chute on the car anyway and figured the chute setup would hold the rear cover up. But, the bottom of it, I'm more concerned with that getting caught by the wind and pulling on it.

Wouldnt' be hard to make. couple plates, one bent piece of 1 inch tubing and you'd be good to go.

Just have to add some small round bar with tabs on them to bolt the bottom of the bumper cover in place. I'm surprised that there isn't one available, sounds like something that any good fab guy should be able to do.

When I put the chute on my car I'll make sure the bumper cover is secure, and will get photo's Making plans to get it in over the winter for some changes

I had the same concern. I kept most of the rear plastic support, but tossed everything else. My bumper cover was rather flimsy, so I fabbed up these brackets.

^ I like that design. If you just covered. It with. A super thin sheet of aluminum you wouldn't. Have to worry about it turning into a parachute on you.

Y2K that's what I was thinking of.

Belflag I will be cutting the t top well out, so there's no small sheet of alum that's gonns do what you're thinking. If I didn't have alot of material leaving the car, that would be an option I agree.

Wasn't too hard to make....I cut up a cereal box to make templates, then I used scrap aluminum and a pair of tin snips to cut them out.

I did have the fuel cell well that I built to attach the center supports to. Otherwise, those two brackets would have to angle up.

Whrn the chute setup goes in, I'll have a round bar in the back that I can use to hold the back of the cover up, and while we're at it, I'll have a couple round bar's come down so I can bolt the mounting points up. It should keep the bumper in shape, even at the speeds I'm planning on seeing. At least I hope :O

We have been making the front supports for a long time. We also have them on sale right now. Check out our site for pics. We also do a bolt in chute mount.

Speed inc doesn't make the carpet anymore. Dont' ask me why because it used to sell like crazy, but it's no longer available, unless something changed I don't know about.

Ozite is pretty easy to do, just have to ue a good adhesive under your feet, and take your time and it comes out good.

Intresting. Last I heard they weren't making it anymore. I see the factory carpet reproduction listed, do they have it available without the foam on it at all, or did you have to shave all that off?

Not too bad. I do like that it doesn't have the big opening where the factory console goes like the stock carpet.
