Default m6 with et street(bias-ply not the radial one) tubes or no tubes?

Alright I got some et street(again the bias-ply ones) to use for my 6-speed. But some people say use tubes and some say not too. What would the benefit of not using a tube for my 6 speed? Also if I don't use a tube I'm assuming it would be a good idea to use screw my tires to the rim, correct? Thanks for any help.

I was going to post this same question. Summit says they are all required but the M & H tires are designed to run no tubes. Also, would limited street use constitute the need for tubes than just a car trailered to the track? And how much extra weight can we expect with the tubes??

if you plan on launching hard, i would, at the minimum put screws in them.

spinning a tire on a wheel isn't the best idea, and can easily be done.

that usually means your tire is going to leak (some get away with them not leaking with screws) which means you should run tubes.

I run screws and tubes in mine. can't put a price on safety.

i have one friend who has no tubes/screws on his 9 second ride, that goes just fine. and i have another friend that spins his tire 3/4 a turn on his 12 second ride.

hit or miss.

everyone has different opinions on this.

If the tire doesn't spin on the rim and the car isn't faster than 10s I'd say go without them. I mark mine to see if they move and I've gone 9s in a 3600 pound car without tubes. They do add weight and a little sidewall stiffness as well.

I am going to assume the stiffer sidewall is not recommended for a 6sp then?

You won't need screws or tubes with those tires. If you're that concerned about spinning in the tire, mark it with window chalk and see how much it moves. I had almost the exact same setup as the OP for years, and never spun a wheel.

I agree with Derek here. I ran on Drag radials, and Bias plys that do not have tubes. A few things influence moving and the main one is tire PSI, as these tires air down, the likely hood of moving increases. I borrowed the smallest ET Drag M/T makes and on a convo pro, pulling both wheels on a heavy m6 car and the tire didnt budge. JL-ws6 on a 28 x 10 ( i think) drag was moving the tire 1/3rd of the way every pass. He screwed his rims.

Tubes may help from the tire kicking out of the rim on low psi launches but like said, the extra stiffness may not be what you want and rotating weight is the enemy.

Honestly if you're runnign a 28 inch tire at such a low pressure that it could come off the bead you're doing something wrong.

I screwed my tires to the rim becuase they were moving a TON. Stooped that, now the leak like a ****

Solution: sell the wheels, buy a set of beadlocks

Switch over to a 275 and I bet you won't have that issue.

Can't wait for you to do that. I already saw what you were looking at. Lets say it looks pimp.

I don't run tubes in my et streets, have never gone lower than 15psi and they don't spin. They do leak a little though. If you run tubes you really should screw the tires to the rims for safety sake. If the tire spins on the rim it could shear the valve stem off the tube.....and that could get ugly.

I'm with Tom on this one. I run stiff wall ET Drags with tubes and screws in my m6 car. Its smooth as silk at the top end.

Before I went with radials, I had ET Streets and never used tubes in them. But back then my junk was a turd. Not that it isn't now, just more of a turd back then.
