Hi,

Would like to remove some weight, and I'm thinking about removing the AC.

If I strip the whole lot out (fan motor, compressor condensor), it adds up to 44 lb ? wow it's heavy....

If I remove it, will I still be able to control the fans to blow hot and cold?
Will I just be losing the AC function, or will the fans stop working altogether?

Sorry for the newbie questions, and thanks for the help

Well, if you remove the fan motor (like you said) NO, you will not have ANYTHING. Now, if you just remove the compressor, condensor, lines, etc and even teh evaporator under the dash, BUT, leave teh fan (blower) motor and heater core, then yes, you will still have heat, but no cold air of course.

I could live without the cold air, shame leaving the motor for warm air is like 21lb, nearly half the weight saving, and I need the heaters on occasion.
Thanks for the help, but I think I'll keep my AC

u could cut off the front half of the a/c box that sticks out into the engine bay and install a plate to cover the hole. there are writeups on here that have pics of this

You are welcome, but your math is a little off though. If you add up teh Compressor (@ 15-20LBS), condensor (@ 5-7LBS), drier/lines (@4-5LBS), you are looking at @ 25-32LBS, PLUS teh parasitic drag (even when AC is off, and AC clutch is disengaged, teh motor still has to turn teh compressor), so there is power to gain, and weight to lose by ditching teh AC.

Now, can you find 25-30 LBS elsewhere? Sure. BUT, if you find 25-30 lbs elsewhere, AND you remove the AC, now you lost 50-60 LBS!!!

But, I live in TX, and I understand teh need for AC. If this is a DD, and live in a hot place (like TX) I would not take my AC off either.

Yep, pretty hot in Texas, I'd certainly keep AC if I lived there.

Kind of undecided if I'm gonna do this now or not.
