Default Would a 24" tire help shave off some ET?

Right now I'm running a 25.67" (basically 26") Nitto drag radial. I have 3.42 gears and I'm trapping under 110. I know I'm trapping in third nowhere near redline and therefore I could definitely benefit from more gear. Wouldn't going with a shorter tire have the same effect as going up in gear ratio? I never see anyone with these cars using anything shorter than 26", even guys with 2.73 gears and trap speeds as low as mine and sometimes lower. Hoosier makes a 225/50/15 drag radial (I know these things are sticky, certainly more so then the Nitto 555R) that is 23.9" tall, weighs just 18 lbs and will fit on the 15x8 wheels that I plan on getting. Assuming that traction will not be an issue (stock converter and suspension work) would this be a feasible option for getting my RPM up through the traps?

even with excellent traction, its not going to change the gearing enough to see an improvement.

May sounds dumb but the better option is more power/faster mph.
