Got my new LSX block 441 in and the front springs are crying for help.

Whats in there now? As far as Spring Rate is concerned.

I est. due to the weight of the block, your going to need something in the 300+ range.

I just bought JL's Front QA1's R Series and I beleive he has on there a spring rated to about 310, and being my car has minimal weight reduction in the front, it should behave well. I think it was akin to a LT1 spring.

I did find this link and like I thought its a LT1 era spring rate...

As mentioned the spring rate is going to need to be pretty high.

If I am not mistaken the highest QA1 spring rate they offer for their coilovers is 325#. The QA1 requires a conical type spring setup.

I do offer a spring cup that fits on the QA1 so you can use stock diameter springs with the QA1 series coilovers. A link to the product can be found HERE part # SA001

Any questions please ask

I went from Qa1 325# to the recommended Afco set up, and the front feels like ****. The car hops after any amount of wheel stand for quite a distance. Looking for answers as well.

How were the 325's?

I think after talking it over with Lee and that onfire runs the 325's with the LSX and his front heavy turbo set up I'm going to go with the 300's. I think (hope) that will give me a good balance of weight transfer and support for the front end with the added 100+lbs.

Thanks Guys!!!!!!!!

well idk if the lsx is more weight than an lt1 but i run the 300 pound springs on my strang shocks and i drive on the street alot with them. i have 250 pounds of weight reduction infront of the firel and the car weighs in at around 3175. of course mine isnt pulling the front tires but it seems to give me a pretty descent ride and escellent weight transfer. hope this helps.

I think the motor weights more then most LS1 cars. The LSX block, 70 lbs of ETP heads, 30lbs of Beck intake and nitrous, is heavy.

The bounce is from shock adjustments not springs.

The 300 lb springs you have should be about right, if those aren't enough, there's a 315 lb spring which was a qa1 spring for lt1 cars, that's what I had on my car. The 325's might be a little too stiff, I'd try the 300's first and see how that goes.

Rebound setting correct? I know we were crazy loose on extension. Any chance coil is binding when the nose comes back down? Have wasted some time watching video of passes and am trying to develop a plan of attack. Thanks for the lessons!

The compression will help control the bounce. Give me a call and we can discuss the settings on the valving.

A guy a long time ago told me to put the lightest spring (in the front) that would hold the front end up without being in coil bind. Then the stored energy would be rediculous and you can control the front with the shocks and limiters(if necessary).

JBM.... I would look at testing different rebound settings. You want a smooth and controlled setdown, not bouncing up and down. If need be, tighten the limiters up a touch, so that it only picks the tire up about 12-14 inches and carries it out smoothly. Of course, I am no professional, but that is how we did it on my Outlaw car. As you know, wheelies are wasted motion and actually slow the car down, so I would think that constant up and down motion would do the same.
