Default 12 Bolt Drop Out for a 9", Who is using?

The purchase of a rearend is near. Will be getting a 9" Midwest housing and torque arm. I am considering this center section (12 Bolt Drop Out) and would like to have some feedback from someone who is or has ran one.

That sounds like a nice piece. I haven't heard of anyone running one though.

You'd probably get a better deal if you would order everything though Eric @ Midwest.

The drop in from Strange is for a extremely light car. It wont last in an f-body.

Roughly how much weight would qualify as extremely light?

I've always been told that most of the strength of the Ford 9" is in the center section design and gear placement with the dropped pinion location and additional pinion support. You give up a little efficiency for a alot more strength with the 9" center. By using a 12 bolt center section in a 9" housing, you're not gaining any of the 9" strengths, but still having all of the 12 bolt weakness'. I really don't see the advantage unless I'm missing something?

I know of a really fast LS1 F body Stocker (Ken & Amy Faulk) that used one a couple of years ago, not sure if it still does. I wouldn't put one in mine.

I also wouldn't use another alumium spool. Cleaned the right side spline out of mine on the starting line at Memphis year-before-last, first round of eliminations at the Mid-South Nationals. Had an .010 light go to waste against an .026. Headed right for the tree.

Went home and put my light-weight steel Moser spool back in. Only 5lb difference.
