Default Rod-End legal for Swing-Out Door-Bar Hinge?

A single-axis hinge creates a possibility of severe floor damage because of the long lever when the top end is disconnected. A rod-end could eliminate that possibility. But would it pass tech inspection?

If you install the door bar correctly you wont have damage. The swing out kits have to be NHRA/IHRA accepted. I havent seen any kits with rodends.

Thanks, Madman, you just shot down the best idea I ever had.

If you're worried about it, just take the door bars out when you're on the street, and when you go to the track put the bars back in but don't open the swingout to get out of the car climb over it.

If you were to put a 6 pt in, have the swingout open and lean on the bar, you could bend/rip the floorboard, I have seen people do it. I'm not sure if it was a bad install, or just the nature of it, but a 5 foot long bar and a 250 lb guy leaning on it, something's gonna give.

JL, I think it was one of your posts that got me worrying in the first place. Swing-outs I've seen make me wince at the idea of some doofus disconnecting the top of the bar and then leaning on it. I still think a rod-end would solve the problem. Maybe Madman will come around and get it approved.

I don't think rod ends are rated for side loads (side impact), rather they are designed for tensile loads (pushing/pulling along the threaded axis). Just thinking out loud.

The rod end will never be approved, that I'm pretty sure of.

I'd just put a solid no swingout bar in and deal with it, it's not that hard to climb in and out of with it in place.

FYI, if you find that you absolutely can't stand the car on the street without the swingouts, it's easy to have the guy put them in later, the way my guy does them, is he puts the bar in solid, then cuts it at the top and then the floor, welds in the swingout portion that's needed on the bottom, then just bolts it up, measures where it needs to be trimmed, then trims it and welds the other end of the swingout in.

( In case you wanted to know if you can have them put in later)
