? for a4s ?
I read somewhere in a thread that it's better to launch in OD .... ? Why would that make any sense especially if your not hitting OD ? Just wondering what everybody on heres launching techniques are ..... I usually launch in D and let the transmission do its job when at track or goin from a stop .... Just curious thanks

It has to do with the way your shift properties are set in the tune. If they are set different than 4th gear will run better times than in 3rd. Some people will disagree with me, but I run mine in 4th gear all day long and never had issues with it. In 3rd I'd constantly hit the limiter.

Since 1995 I have made over 3000 bracket race and test passes in my (high 9 low 10 sec) car and every one of them (except 5) were made with the shifter in OD. The five exceptions were when I tested exactly what the OP is asking about. I saw no change in ET by launching in 3rd. The only difference I saw is that it wont shift into OD at the finish line when you let out and you will experence engine breaking untill you get slowed down. I have mine set up to go into OD as soon as I let out so the Engine RPM's will come down quicker and eliminate the engine breaking without shifting to Neutral.

That is what I thought Doughboy692 .... I don't have to worry about it hitting 4th because I am currently only running 2.73s .... With that set up I don't think I'll have to worry about hitting 4th for a while lol. I was just wondering y some said it was better in OD I didn't see any reason why it would matter on stock tune especially. I can see the engine breaking being a factor but that's ALL I can think of that it should effect .... I could be wrong tho lol .

Putting the car in D can cause the car to take slightly longer to shift, and in some cars it will hit the limiter. It will help to support the sprags by turning on the low clutch and the overrun clutch, so it is a little bit of a safety factor but slows the shifts a little. My car is tuned to shift optimally in D.

I have noticed when its in D it shifts in to 2nd at 330ft and when its in OD it shifts in 2nd before the 330ft mark.. I can run the rest of the way in 2nd gear.
