Default Wheel stud question

I have a moser 12 bolt in my 2000 camaro, I did not opt for the longer studs. I have been told that I need to install 2 1/2" to 3" studs to be legal. Looking at the 09 NHRA rules on here it doesn't seem to be true. The rule at the time follows.

Thread engagement on the lug must be equivalent to or greater than the diameter of the stud or bolt. Length of the stud/bolt doesn't determine permissability (example: a 7/16 inch stud must be thoroughly engaged through the threads in the hex portion of the lug a minimum of 7/16 inch.

My current studs are factory length. I am going to go to a drag wheel setup. Am I good or do I need longer studs?

.

It depends on the wheel, my drag lites are thick as hell, my Bogarts are much narrower.
If they give you trouble, just mention the rule.
It does look silly, and not any stronger to have a 3" stud,
with 2" sticking out doing nothing.
I personally would just use the 3" because you never know when you might change wheels,
or have a flat and need to borrow something to get home??

Yes you need longer. I beleive what MOST NHRA tech guys state is 1/2" Protruding from out from the lug nut, so you need open ended Nuts. Most tech guys DO NOT want you to take off every nut to verify so that is why open ended works and if it Protrudes that 1/2" beyond they know your engaging enough threads.

Its safer as you also are using a better quality Stud even be it the same diameter then what Moser gave you.

Pull the axles, it pops off with a mini pry bar or screw driver. The worst you would need to do is have it pressed back on.
