Default Swaping in a th400/350

Which tail housing do I want (long/Short) to keep the same DS. Right now I have a M6 and a S60 rear with a PST 3.5 alum DS I would like to keep and hopefully not modify.

Cool I found a 350 with the long housing.
Now which is faster lighter??? I want the lighter faster trans even if it wont hold up as well, but not one Ill have to rebuild every run.

350 is lighter and less rotating weight but weaker. I'm going with the 400 because it's stronger and I won't have to worry about it. It's worth the drivetrain loss to me and has been recommended to take this path by every race transmission builder I've talked to.

For what you want 350 hands down. They can EASILY be built to handle what your looking at. Weight will do a lot to help keep them alive.

Its not a huge difference but for what your saying you want i dont think theirs much question.

This is the trans Im looking at
have a TH350 Long tail shaft tranny for sale bought this for my malibu but never installed it. was behind a 383 Stroked s-10 from what i understand and they went to a powerglide.

JW Bellhousing that would have to be re certified, i called them up and they said they can do it if you wanted to get it done.
Kolene steels, Red Alto, Kevlar line race bands, reverse pattern manual shift valve body. Also has a deeper trans pan looks like it can hold an extra quart of fluid.

It's all about your goals and what you're willing to risk. I'm going with a new Transmission Specialties piece. I don't trust used transmissions for race cars, especially without full documentation.

Any SBC bell housing will bolt right up to a LT1 correct??
94z for the price its selling for I could prob have it rebuild and still make out ok, although its supposed to be in great shape as is.

Id at least have it gone through by a good shop. We got a DRC trans, they seems to be one of the best trans shops around.

I have a M6 as most of you know,
Most of the stuff in the trans section is for LS1s and not LT1s so I have a couple questions.
What All do I need for the swap.
Trans
converter
flexplate
shifter.
Trans cooler and lines
A4 console (not needed but better looking)
Is that it? Am I missing something?
I read you can use a M6 cross member, if I get a long tail shaft I can reuse the DS, wire the trans to the clutch switch, use the M6 computer tuning, and just take out the clutch pedal
Sound about right??????
Will all standard SBC stuff work with a LT??? I know the LS1 needs some shims, different flex plate or a longer LS1 style pilot snout on the TC.

I have a BMR crossmember for a LT1/TH350 sitting in my garage. It came with my TH350 but I couldn't use it in my LS1 car... I'll sell it to ya cheap. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Yes, you have covered just about everything. The trans will bolt right up. You may need a different dip stick tube. The th400 diffently requires it. Lockar has 36" dip stick that works great on our cars. So no more Extreme Street for you? You going to join us in Modified PA?

No I like banging gears but its way cheaper and more consistent to go auto. M6s are expensive as hell to rebuild.
