Default Spool Question,

At what point is a spool a good idea and or necessary? Currently, the car in question has a Moser 12 bolt with an Eaton posi, 33 spline axles and 3.73's.
The car runs high tens at about 128 mph. 60's have ranged between 1.44 to 1.5x's. We're thinking about switching to 4.10's and wondered if we should do the spool at the same time. The car rarely sees the street but we do drive it
occasionally to the track, which is 6.5 miles away. Race weight is 3690 if that matters.

I think you are there. High tens and a mainly track car. I would if it were mine.

My busted Tru trac Acts like a Spool, the worst I have seen is tires wear quicker. Driver fine in the rain and on the freeway. i also have a deleted front sway and a rear drag sway bar with SFC's, the car behaves very well. Oh and I also may mention Skinnies and Slicks are on the car too.

Go with a spool and don't look back. I had a Detroit Locker before and hated that obnoxious thing.... I drive mine about 11 miles one-way to the track.

2,000 miles on mine and I don't even know it is there unless I am backing out of the garage.

I did it back in 2005 and have never looked back! You will feel better knowing both tires are applying power to the ground at the same rate.

Good luck and enjoy!

How much lighter is a spool compared to a posi? Any before and after track results from a posi to a spool?

I run a spool in everything. The only time its an issue is if the cars broke and you have to push it other then straight on the trailer. Then youll need a lot of help......

One thing I like about them is that when you pull up to a stop sign to turn rt say.....you dont need to use the brakes. you cant stop the car just by turning in abit....Lol.

I can agree with this.

I was helping JL-ws6 get his car in his trailer at his home. No engine or trans and him sitting in the vehicle I am sure it was under 2800 pounds. It was one mother F'er to move with me alone on a flat surface with a decline and he car had skinnies. He was steering and braking.

If you're keeping your car n/a I'd even consider a 4.30 gear while you're at it. 4.10 is good for mild power adders or if you're running a 26 inch tire, but if you have a 28 on it and are leaving it n/a I'd put a 4.30 in it.

I did the swap once I started spraying my car and it was seeing high 9's, I ran it with the posi into the 10.50 range, and never had a problem, same 33 sp eaton that moser put in a 12 bolt.

Hmmm, the car is strictly NA and we are currently running a 28 MT radial. A friend also suggested a 4.30. We'll have to kick that idea around a bit.
