tires are 28x10.50 slick on a 15x10. it looks to be almost 1" between the front of the quarter panel metal and the tire. do i need to trim this metal also? the rear bumper cover touches the tire while its just sitting on the jack stands. I assume i need to cut 1" off of the bumper. what have you used to trim the bumper neatly? i was thinking either a dremel with cutoff wheel or a sawzall or maybe a sharpe razor blade. any ideas? heres a photo of how close the tire is. what do you think needs to be done?

That odd I didn't have to trim my bumper for either my 325 50 15 or my 11.5x28 slicks

I have no rubbing issues at all.

But if I had to trim bumper I would use a sawall with a really fine blade

i wouldnt use a sawzall. its not necessary, just use a razor blade it goes through the plastic like butter.

ttt....i really hate having to trim my bumper...but the tire already ate thru it so i may as well. i have another bumper cover im going to install sometime, i think i may go down to 27 inch tires to gain a little more clearence so i dont destroy the new bumper.

my bumper has been on and off the car a few times. prolly isnt lined up too well anymore. but trapping over 130 i'm sure the tire will grow. i want to be safe.

I just put a 1/4-20 bolt N nut with some washers in the pushteee hole. Rolled the metal under lip, and used a hammer handle to pull it back there to hold it back, think I drilled a new hole or slotted the hole in the metal. And tighend the bolt up with a washer on both side. It was easy did it in the parking lot when I lived in a apt. didnt even take the bumper off just pull the edns away. been fine to 130s.


if you look in a low side pic of my car you can see a little wavy after the bolt spot, in the bottem were the bumper is pulled back. But thats it, eveything else looks stock.

My rule was if I could get my thumb between the tire and the body I left the body alone. But I would hammer down and deburr any sharp spots on the metal part of the body.

I trimmed mine with a dremel, it was easy to do, I mainly just cut the part off that wrapped inwards around the tire. The above transam pic I did trim the metal inside a little, just to give a little added clearance. I've been 145 with it no a 28x10.5S tire, nothing rubs.

Ive seen some cut cars (black, and NBM) that looked good. I noticed they had 28x 10.5 ETdrags or 28x11.5 QTP or ETstreets on them at the shop 1st then had to look closer for bumper cover mod. but any other color were you can see the metal showing I think looks like ****, pewter/white/red/SOM . Then when you put a street 275/315/ 3xx (27.7-28inch) DR on you can see it even more. Worse is if you run a little 26-27 tire on the street.



Its close, no rubber sticks there lol. Just muddy water, but it dosnt rub at speed to touch the plastic to wear it. So I know it is not touching.
I had to move it forward like 1/16 more or somthing too, the way the slicks grow it not the same then get waves, and budges differnt front/back.

noticed the front metal lip is pushed a little, fits the contur of the tire better on the lowerd car. thats 1/4 -1/8 more tire room. and maybe safer the tire isnt gona cutch the top edge if it dose rub.

YES thats a coat hanger holding my muffalr on, it pops out the hanger on wheelies. SLP didnt design the 2OTL for them

tried to pull the cover back like Studderin did, but honestly it didnt work very well. I cut about 1/4" off the bumper cover with a razor blade. I now have exactly 1" between the tire and the cover. I bent back all the metal so if the tire did happen to wear down the plastic there is no metal back there.

StangEaterSS, can you get any pics of how it look inside the wheel well? Those rims look really bad ***. After getting some rubber in there I'm sure it all blends better. The cars I saw were more "getting to the track somtime this year" so you could see the metal showing easy.

I know my setup is kinda getto, I basicly too a hammer handle and rolled in down in the lower spot, and tighter the bolt up. I havnt taken to rear bumper off, but not looking forword to it. Its not somthing thats going to go right back the same way easy I think. I normally dont do stuff like that, I'm all about making the car easier to work on. But it was 2 years ago and I wnated to get the the track on the new wheels that day.
Cutting it would be eaiser for down the road, Ive seen guys use zipties to pull the bottem back, and that was even more getto.

OK. i got my 28's on with a little hammering, no biggie. They look to clear everywhere well except the rear bumper cover, it might be about 1/8 inch in there. First thing i was thinking, is if i have 1 inch in the front, and 1/8 int he rear, why not move the rear end forward the 3/8 or so to even it out? Im going to guess the driveshaft can handle the shift...


Ok next, studderin, i read your post a couple times, and what the hell is the pushtree hole? Could you please explain?

there is a hole in your bumper cover that lines up with a hole in the metal on the body. there is a push pin style plastic piece that pushes in the hole to hold everything together. its right behind your rear wheel on the underside of the bumper.

the wheels are Weld Racing RTS 15x10's. I cut the metal back a 1/2" farther than the bumper and folded over some of it. I then painted it flat black. heres some quick pix.
