Default To tube or not to tube.

I do tires for a living so conventional wisdom tells me to put a tube in my slicks. When I bought them many people said "don't run tube"
If you have tube type slicks vote if you have a tube or are running them tubeless. Thanks. If you have a comment of personal experiance please include an explination.

I don't run tubes in mine, 135mph trap speeds. They say tubes make the tires more consistent and stable on the top end. I say it's just more rotating weight.

I figure the last thing I want is to wreck my car, myself, or somebody else. If you're running slicks and making the power to pull the fronts off the ground, then use tubes AND rim screws. I know I don't want to spin the rims inside tires that are only running 15psi of air to begin with...

Just more rotating weight. I've never run tubes in any bias ply or radial tire.

Tubes are gay....especially if they go bad from your car just sitting then it's a lot of trouble to break the tire down and replace the damn thing.

Never ran tubes with any of my slicks in the Camaro, Vega, or Dragsters,

To the OP - consider this: there are guys that make it well into the 10s on ten bolt rear ends. Does this mean you would? Maybe maybe not.
Will you be ok running without tubes? Maybe maybe not. If you do tube, just be sure to use rim screws. BTW, tubes are pretty light....I guarantee you won't notice a difference in your et or mph with or without them

No tubes
Permatex High Tack (keeps tires from rotating on rim)

My car acts just fine going through the traps. I'll be shooting for 9's on a stock 10 bolt this fall.

28 x 10.5 stiff M/T with no tubes or screws. 1.38 on stock suspension. I know some that run them and say it helps. I guess I haven't reached that point yet

Exactly what Nathan said: No tubes
Permatex High Tack (keeps tires from rotating on rim)

I learned the High Tack trick after screwing my old stock 16inch five stars because the tire was moving. When i got my new Weld 15x10s I was looking to an alternative to screwing a new set of rims so I posted up and an old school racer told me to try High Tack. I was leaving in the upward 6k range at 13.5 psi cold and no slippage. This stuff works.

As far as the leak down problem, before mounting the slicks (without tubes) get some ajax liquid soap and completely coat the inside of each slick then sit them out in the sun and let them dry. Repeat this step about 3 times, this will almost eliminate the leaking, another trick I learned from an old schooler on this site.

If the manufacturer tells me I need tubes, I'm running tubes... Sorry, I'm just a lemming looking for the safest possible setup.

My biggest concern is getting sepperations in the tire. Traditional wisdom says that tube type tires will sepperate like crazy since it doesn't have an inner liner to keep the air where it belongs. It seems as if that isn't the case at all.

Apparently no one has had a tire go to hell due to not running a tube?

i also agree with them up top it is more rotating weight and more weight = less et screw that so thats one of the reasons i did it with no tubes
