Default Leak in newish QTP`s

Hey all, ran the car this weekend at Ultimate shootout at our local track and must have picked something up in the tire. I go out next morning and driver rear is flat, DOH!!!!! I found the leak close to the center of tire. Its a slow 11.x car and I dont run tubes

Whats the recommended fix? My cousin works at a local tire shop, should I have him patch it? or??

Yes you can have it patched without any issue.

Do not patch a slick. Get new tires or get tubes.

Give me one reason not to patch a slick or DR. There isn't one. Get it patched and you will be fine.

Many tire shops won't patch much because they want to sell tires. Also they are full of ignorant kids who were tough what lug nuts and drain plugs are and that is all they know.

Make sure you use a plug patch if you have one available. It will seal the hole so that no water gets in and hurts any of the cords.

Good luck.
I've patched quite a few tires over the years with perfect success.
I attempted patching slicks twice and both leaked...

Ive used a plug patch with success on my other set of slicks. Simply because they were BRAND NEW, went from the pit to the staging lanes and picked up a nail..... The patch plug never leaked....

If they were used past 50% it's not worth the trouble to me, buy a new set imo.

I have patched a BFG drag radial that picked up a huge screw. I made 20 passes at the track over the next few months before my new set of tires. worked great.

I had to do this myself tho. tire shops wont patch a slick. the reason discount tire co. wouldnt patch it even tho i had bought the tires from them was because its a "racing tire" they dont want anything to do with it blowing out at high speed. they told me there is no warranty on tread wear and no road side warranty and they will not patch these kind of tires for any reason.

that was a straight plug... not a plug patch...

I still agree it's not a great idea, but when you roll a car off the trailer the first time, it goes 100ft and gets a nail, well, im not wasting all that time driving, and $200 for a slick for nothing.

yeah I work on daily driven 130+ mph police cars and we "patch plug" them all the time... it works great. WE DO NOT PLUG THOSE TIRES THOUGH as the tires can change shape a little at those sustained high speeds and "shoot" the plug out. as the patch plug goes on the inside and can not be dislodged. I would deff do it cause I can't see myself wasting 200 bucks on a slick if I can perfectly use it, and tax payers would have a fit if we replaced every tire that had a little nail in it if we could safely patch it IMHO

This guy is an idiot! I hope he didn't get hurt(only read the first line or two), but he nearly deserves this for pluging a tire that he planed on running 150 mph or better on.

Don't plug passanger tires let alone slicks! Low pressure, low speed, bias tires are the only thing to be pluged!!! Radials, and passangers tires of all size should be patched. A patch it just as good as new therfore a slick, road race, tractor pulling tire, can be patched without any issue. Just because it is a high hp aplication means nothing.
