Default Turbo 350 or 400 which one and why?

Sup guys need expertise from the pros I am looking to get rid of the 4L60 since it's definitely not holding up anymore and this one is number 4 or 5. I'm trying to decide between a 350 and 400. From what I've gathered the 350 is lighter and doesn't eat up as much power as the 400 but apparently it's weaker? Will a 350 hold on a 408 with a 300 shot reliably?

I do like driving my car on the street and usually put about 200 miles a week on it if not a little more but I don't mind losing the OD if the transmission is gonna hold. My car is 3560 with me in it and I've been using a 27" drag radial if that matters.

I had a 350 in my Z28 and didn't have an issue with it even on the gas but the car was about 500lbs lighter.

Any help, input, or opinions are welcome.

Carlos

One of the biggest issue I have seen with a TH-350 that they tend to get cranky when running a Trans Brake. Seemingly something to be concerned about. Like said, do it once and in MOST situations a stock or even BEEFED up TH-400 will handle everything you could ever throw at it.

Carlos,

Had a beefed up TH350, and it did alright for a year and was trouble free, but ended up splitting the case on it at the shootout. How heavy is your car?

350 for a little extra ET
400 for longevity

clutches on a 400 are a lot wider than clutches on 350 (more grip surface for higher hp).

My 350 has been great over the years. On the transbrake, off the footbrake, I think it has alot to do with who builds it. I've never had it rebuild, freshened up, nothing.
408 on a 300 shot, looking at what? 900 crank horse. I'd say you'd be pushing the limit of a 350. Go with the 400.

X2. I ran a TH350 for years, even into the mid 10s with a 120 shot, but as soon as I wanted a transbrake, it was TH400. I heard too many horror stories about t-brakes on TH350 transmissions (but as mentioned, can be who builds them). The TH400 does eat a tad more power but works well everytime for me
