Default Shelf life on Mickey Thompson Drag radails?

Have some M/T drag radials that are dated in 2005. They are scuffed up alittle bit but no matter how much burnouts, air pressure differences I do. I cannot get them to scuff up any more. I heard theres a 2 year shelf life on these tires. They are on a 600rwhp camaro and do nothing but spin/wheel hop. I really dont feel the car pulls as hard as it should. Do u think new frest drag radails will make a huge difference in the performance/traction wise?

Too Many varibles to account for. No listing of drivetrain, suspension, weight, race setting etc etc.

There are always a shelf life persay but unless you can get/borrow a set of fresh ones, you wont know if its the compound drying out or the tire is insuffecent for the current suspension setup.

You need to post more info, so that others can help.

It's a 95 convertible camaro. BMR adj. torque arm, bmr control arms, stock rear shocks with ebiach sportline lowering springs, 12 bolt rear end with 373 gears. No weight modifications just removed spare tire. Makes 600rwhp. built 6 speed trans. running a 275/40/17 9.5 tire

Stick car need a LOT of work to make them work good.

I know there are automatic cars that get away with less but when you move up to bigger HP manual cars your in for a suprise.

I have a set of M/T DR on my t-56 car as we speak 275/50-15's and i can tell you for a fact, I have adjustible everything, drag bar, TQ arm, everything except the K member stuff and I shred the tires off with ease and this car has 4.10's and cam only making 385 rwhp on a 12 bolt.

At the track with GOOD prep and some heat in it MAY be a different story but I am willing to wager brand new, heat cycled tires will shred just as easily.

I made about 10 passes with New MT Drs then sold them they were not consistent at all with my T56 and I only make 413 rwhp. I put Hoosier QTPs on and the car dropped .2 in the 60ft next pass and was a lot more consistent

your car needs a bias ply or you need to tune your suspension in to get the radial to work, bottom line.

On the original subject, shelf life depends on the exposure to sun, temperature and storage style.

Most tires manufacturers tell you to store them on their sides out of the sun with 5 psi or less if they are mounted. My trailers tires are nearly 4 years old but I keep them covered and off the hot pavement on a pair of 2 x 4 boards. Keeps the cracks out of them and thus the tires last longer. Racing tires are also subject to # of burnouts, how hot they get, etc.

I have the same problem as OP. My MT DR's are dated 2005 and they do not hook at all( 2.0 60ft times). My next purchase will be a new set of either Hoosiers or Mickeys.

I would think a good set of DA shocks on the rear would help, as well as give you the capability to dial it in for your particular setup. Good luck with the car.

Wouldn't it be easier to call Mickey Thompson and ask someone who knows what they are talking about? Just saying.
