Default 6 speed guys..4:88s and 28in tire

Anyone doing this? My boss has a set of 4:88s for a 12 bolt, new just laying around in the box. I currently have 4:56s and a 28in tire. Im crossing the traps aronund 6200 I think. Would this be a smart choice if I were to add heads over the winter? I cant keep the car from bogging on ET Streets from a 6300 drop. I thought 4:88s and leave the same or maybe a few hundered less Rs might keep the bogging and help with 60fts in this heavy pig!

Been tossing up doing heads or a blower that Iv found, I figure Ill probably change gears one way or the other to make something work good together..

Ive seen six speed guys running 4.9Xs with 28" tire. you should be fine going thru the traps around 6600-6700 with the 4.88. Should help your 60' aswell

Go for it! Sounds fun to me! As long as you have the revs to do it, they can only help..

Have you tried any suspension adjustments? You may just need to take some "hit" away from the tire.

As long as the car stays N/A it should pull that cam into it's intended powerband.

Thats why Im trying to make my mind up and were to spend the money! If I stay N/A and with the MS4 I think it would be perfect..but blower I need gears and a new cam to get full use of it..**** I hate cars lol

As for suspension..Im dumb with that crap, and I have no idea how to make it better or worse lol. I just read and do what a lot of guys here do with shock settings!

If you have adjustable LCA brackets, try moving the arms one hole up.

I would do it back when I ran the 6spd thats what I had. A nine inch so they were 4.86's and a 28'' tire. I ran 141 n/a in a 3450 lb car and went through right around 8000 to 8100 rpm. It will like it since the first gear is so high at 2.66.

I have 4.56's in my white ss and a 27'' tire and it goes 120 and its right at 6900 rpm through the lights.

4.88 Sounds a little steep, 7000 rpm will get you 119 mph, how high do you want to rev it?

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

It will help with your launch thats for sure.

Limiter is at 7, Im thinking that it would help me out of the hole but hurt top end the more I look at gear/tire ratios. I think Ill leave it alone for now and just learn how to drive lol!!

remeber the 28x10.5 etdrags grow. i put 29 in that calclator is it seams closer.

if you get the gears for free i would put them in. but get a new install kit, and dont use anything over. keep the pinion pressed on the current gears you have now, shimmed and everything, then you can just put them back in with thouse bearings. i'll it will cost you in the price of the install kit, and maybe another spare pinion bearing if you have to make a test bearing to get the pinion shim spec. then you can put the current gears back in if you need them for heads or spray down the road.

with the 4.30s i have gone 129 andi don't remeber my shiftlight coming on. set at 6400, on the 28x10.5 stiff. its mounted in my dash right at you, and is bright.
alex /black ta, cartech/ went 132-133 on 4.56s and his shiftlight was coming on you can see in his in car vids. i think he said that was set at 7k, but he wasnt just blimping it. it was lighting up. i think you could even hear it hit the limiter 1-2 times. it was probally set 7200-maybe more i would like to know, if he dosn't see this i would pm him and find out.

you should go faster then 119, this is what i get 29/4.88s
6500 115
6600 117
6700 118
6800 120
6900 122
7000 124
7100 126
7200 127

this is the gear i would like to run and buzz my motor a little over 7k, i've taken it over 7, to 7300 i think to test the valve springs on some big cams and to see how the power droppping off. its not good for the motor but its not as bad as doing it in the burn out with no load, or the wrong gear down shifting. there some other ways of putting the motor in some high rpms that are worse then others. i think at the top of 4th with a smooth steady load is not the worst way. i know the other fast cam only guys take the motors over 7000. ls1joe was 7800- even 8 i think, but he was not reallt street driving the car at the point. so its not like to put 20k miles on it, same with the tick car they have the 2step at 7800 or somthing crazy.

another thing to remeber too is your car going thu the traps 125-130 mph is still moving 128 miles per hour. you know when you let off at the 1000' and coast its not really that big of a deal, the car already went 1000' hauling ***. you still et really good. guys think its some big deal, but its not like soming happening in 1st when you only moving 40mph. so even if you dont want to take your motor over 7k. justing letting it hit the limiter at 7k a few times for the last 50feet while you moving 125mph is not going to hurt the et that bad. and its all about improving the times getting the car moving thats the biggest et improments. evertime i have gotten the car to 60/330 better is when it really get faster. like what tim is saying is all about 1st gear in the t56, finding .05 there is way more important then .05 anywere else.
