Default Help with blower box removal

This strip does not come off with the box and looks to be a reinforcement of some sort. Its riveted to the firewall in 127 places and the bolts for the HVAC bolt through this.

Are you guys leaving this strip on and putting the delete panel over the top? Or drilling out all these rivets?

The delete plate is mounted from the inside of the car. I did not remove the reinforcement piece, but then again there is nothing pretty about my car other than the factory design. Its really up to you

Removing that metal strip is gonna take alot of work, I wouldn't bother with it unless you're going for a really clean looking firewall.... in that case, remove it.

I left it on my car fwiw... and I don't think I'll put the time it would take into removing that.

Well heres the deal, Ive already started trying to remove the strip on one side so theres gashes from grinding the rivets and holes from trying to drill them out lol. If someone made a delete plate that would go over the strip and cover it up, that would be the only way I could go at this point haha

try to keep the strip as a whole once you have it out, then go to home depot or lowes an buy some sheet metal an use that strip for a outline an make your own piece. its would be real simple an cost you no more then 30 bucks

I got it off!!

I kept the strip as a whole for the most part, its a bit twisted here and there. Im thinking Ill just make a cardboard template. The hardest part is finding some metal, home depot wants 30$ for a 12x24 sheet of metal, wtf???

Metal is expensive these days.... Home depot is a bit pricier then most, call your local welding shop/steel supplier.

FWIW, I own my own welding shop, I used a piece of .090 5052 Aluminium. The whole 4 x 8' sheet cost $90.... thats wholesale, but I think ya catch my drift.

I wish I was in the lower 48 because I get screwed on shipping. I dont know why they charge so much, I know it doesnt cost 30$ to ship a sheet 2'x2' of aluminum to Alaska.

Picked up a 2x2 sheet of steel from a local store for 15$. Hopefully I cut this ok. lol

I couldnt find my die grinder so I ended up using my grinder so its a bit rough around the edges. If your shop has a decent means to cut, I wouldnt mind sending you a template. Its not like the car is being used at all til April, we just got our first snow today. haha
