Default looking at weight reduction for racecar

heres what i'm looking at and tell me what you think it will save.

vfn front bumper (thinking about the whole front cap from VFN)
side mirrors
fiberglass dash (i have a really gutted dash now, basically just stock shell)
chrome moly steering column (have gutted stock column with grant wheel)

from experience what do you think i can save from each?

thanks,

tyler

I know that you will see a major diff from stock door skins to DMH Carbon Fiber, much more room and IMO cleaner. I to see these on JL's car and looks very clean, much more room for side bars in a cage.

The mirror's you will see about 1.5 lbs per side, the stock column with a factory wheel and airbag, compared to DMH's column was close to 30 lbs, including a grant wheel and an SFI quick release hub.

The glass dash is about 12 lbs lighter then a gutted factory one. This is a tough one though because I don't know at what level of "gutted" the stock dash was when weighed.. so there's a little question on that one.

The nose piece, I think you'll probably save roughly 15 lbs, as you'll have to add a bunch of round bar to get that on the car and supported right.

i dont know about the dash either i heard 8lbs..

the front clip i dont think will be much after you ad in rd bar and mounts..i think it would be as heavy almost..maybe a couple pounds lighter.

For dash this is what i been thinking about doing,my dash pad is gone and im going to just us a thin piece of aluminum an paint it as the dash pad,im going to cut the pass side off my dash so i only use the driver side an center area, then ill be using aluminum inserts for my switchs and where my gauge cluster is..i imagine i could get it as light as a vfn..

ill make a side panel to cap the edge of the dash an thats where my msd and fuse block and digi set will go...

heres what my back end will look like

heres frances johnsons front..im going to try and do the same when money permits

another way to do it..you could use the stock fenders and clip and make it a 1pc deal.

I'm kind of going to do a cross between the red car you pictured and what waterproofer did, but I'm not having the nose be removable. I don't really need it to be.

don't bother with the vfn front end...we tried it on another car...took a professional 40+ hours of reglassing to make it fit...its designed for a chassis car (narrowed front end) and won't correctly fit on a OEM chassis.

the OEM bumpers and fenders are pretty light...the weight is in the crash bars and extra metal in the engine bay...
mirrors are about 1.8 lb each
depends on how light your stock column is...I built my own moly column and shaft. saved 10lbs over oem column.

I just got my glasstek dash from madman...its definately lighter and than an oem gutted dash (if you count the lower crossbar, lower panel on the driverside and the glove box)

yeah my glasstech dash is shipping monday from madman as well.... if nothing else it will make it easier to get to the fire wall for maintenance and or wiring problems.
