Default Been thinking now I am asking.

Why doesn't anyone just 4 link and be done with the rear? Everyone adds all these parts and whatnot with huge $ invested. Why not save some money, spend some time and 4 link with a pan hard and drag bar?

I understand many people don't have a welder so I know why the majority doesn't but why doesn't anyone?

a huge part is the classes most guys run require "stock style" suspension.

and when you can get a torque arm to work so well, why go through the extensive work to back half the car unless you're bracket racing?

It's cheaper to stay stock suspension. Why spend the $$ to 4 link if you can go very low 7's or faster on a stock style suspension.

If I was playing with a pickup truck, and the typical weight distribution you'd have with one I would 4 link it. That, and it would be MILES ahead of where the leaf springs will get you performance wise.

But, the f body platform with the tq arm works, and now with some of the guys that have gotten the vette IRS working as well as they have... I wouldn't go ditching that without giving it a damn good chance first too.

I understand it works and is proven. Never thought about the class issue.

I am guessing from the prices I see you guys talking about that you could 4 link the car for half or less money then a fully upgraded stock style set up.

If you were refering to my truck I wasn't looking for advice. It is 4 linked and bagged already.

the 4-link set-up isnt as cheap as you may think. just the price of the tin work in the back alone is pretty expensive. i back-halved my camaro years ago. it took me a few outtings just to get it to work as well as the torque arm set-up did. most poeple will never test and tune enough to get all they can out of a 4-link. there are so many configurations its crazy. with some fabrication skills you can put full tubs and a huge tire under a stock suspension car with less work than it would take to do a 4-link set-up. its fun going to the track on a 28x10 tire with stock suspension and going faster then 99% of the big tire back-half cars there. stock suspension all the way.

I see. Didn't relise it would be so difficult to 4 link. I was thinking you could run a 4 link off the unbody and not need to basicaly backhalf the car to do so.

That is why I love my truck. Room and easy to do anything you want!

there's absolutely no point in putting a 4 link in without completely back halfing the car....

and a good back half setup is gonna run you 1500+ bucks to do what these guys are doing on stock suspension. plus then you have to take the MAJOR project of cutting the car in half to install it.

This is about the best sentence you could come up with to answer my question. Thanks that is why I love the forum! now I no longer have to wonder why the hell do they do it this way.

i from experience know its about double to four link a car i did it to my car theres numerous rear frame kits out there i went with the 2x3 from s&w which was 1200 for the rear frame 4 link bars shitty shocks and springs(just using for mock up) and brackets.then i spent 1100 on a custom sheet metal rear and 800 on a center section 600 on axles and it is a **** ton of work to do, which i did on my own. so its definetly not a budget projeect or a project for people who cant fabricate or weld good. my 2 cents-tony-
