Default Helmet question

Can you use a J.C.Whitney helmet (they're cheap!) for drag racing? Should I get full or open face? Opinions welcome.

I'm pretty sure the Snell rating is good for 15 years, i.e. currently a Snell 90 is still acceptable...

As far as a "cheap" helmet, I've always lived by the credo that they're for a cheap head... Isn't your noggin worth a few extra $$$ to keep it in one piece?

Hmmm, now after some quick research, I can't find a definitive answer on the currently acceptable Snell ratings... I do know that M2000 is the most current.

According to the NHRA, an M85 helmet is still good...

I've heard this too. I was told "If you've got a $10 head, get a $10 helmet"....lol.

I would think the snell rating indicates the level of safety. Price isn't the issue. I'm curious as to which helmet is the cheapest that will meet tech rules.

The Snell rating doesn't necessarily indicate a level of safety, just the year that that particular rating was the most up to date...

I do second the notion of Thunder Racing ----------->

Helmet must be at least a Snell 90 or above. They are good for 15 years, and the most current in 2000. They'll release the 2005 towards the end of the 2005 year usually...

Thanx guys, just went to a local Honda bike shop and saw some really nice ones there. I'll be picking up one of those.
