Default Need help choosing the right size slick...

I want to go with the 26 x 11.5 x 15 Hoosier QTP but I only have a 15 x 8.5" Convo Pro wheel. Will it fit? The Hoosier website says it only needs 8 to 10 inches but Summit says it needs a 9 to 10 inch wheel.

Also, am I better off with a 26.4" tall tire with a 10" tread width or a 27" tall tire with a 9" tread width?

I'm currently running a tire that is too tall at 27.4" but my 26.1" drags I previously had were too short.

I want to go through the traps at 6500 rpms. If I go too tall, I won't be able to do it and I'll be sacrificing ET. The 26.4" slick should be the perfect height but if I have too much friction from a 10" width then maybe it is just as bad as going too tall?

Any advice?

Derrick

Go with the 26 x 11.5 x 15 Hoosier QTP they will fit on your rims.

Thanks Coach. Are you using the same wheel/tire combo? Is there any reason I should be concerned about the added friction from the larger tread width? What would slow me down more, too tall or too wide? My guess is too tall.

Thumbs up

Here is what I think. I believe that you should put the biggeast tire you can fit under you Hot Rod. To answer your other questions I need to know what gears you are running?

Hell, I run 30x9x15's and 29.5x10.5x15s with 5.13 gears.

Woah!

I have 4.10 gears and with 15 x 7.5 Convo Pros and 26 x 9 x 15 Hoosier Drags I was going through the traps at 6500 rpm and trapping 117 to 119 mph. With the same wheels I went to 28 x 9 x 15 MT ET Drags and lost two to three mph in the same weather. I was only going through the traps around 5900 rpm. According to MT website, those tires are 27.4" tall, a full 1.3" taller than my Hoosier Drags were.

Over the winter I've lightened up my Z some more and did a couple little horsepower mods hoping to get another mph or two out of her. So I'm thinking on a good weather day, I could trap around 120 mph. Based on that presumption, I'm assuming the 26 x 11.5 x 15 QTP's wrapped around a 15 x 8.5 Convo Pro would work best due to the 26.4" overall diameter.

The 4.10 gears are staying until they break. That being said, do you think with the 26.4" tires I should be going through the traps close to 6500 rpm again?

Thanks again,

Derrick
