alternatives to t56...
I'm posting this in the drag racing section because it mostly applies....
I'm having trouble deciding on what trans setup to go to. I've about had enough of the t56's, esp since I broke one on my second pass with the latest 650/700 combo. I'm about to get a TH400, but wanted to see if anybody out there has done a jerico or other style manual trans in an LS1. I'm just looking into alternatives right now since the TH400 really isn't all that fun on the street. I want something pretty much bullitproof and without the having to drive a pro shifted trans...
If you know of anybody out there with something other than a t56 for a manual, chime in...
Thanks
Conrad

I had a 200R GN tranny and went back to the T56. It was ok but I ended up going back to the six speed.
I would go TH400 and possible a GVO unit.
With a good converter, 2.75 first gear and a T-brake you can run a taller (numerically lower) gear without too much problem That'll keep the revs sensible

Im not concered much about the revs really since I am going to a 3.73 rear (the car smacks the rev limiter at around th 1000 ft mark now with the t56). I run a 27 inch hoosier qtp on the street, 28 inch drag at the track...
There's just nothing like slamming gears.......but right now it looks like the th400 is the only way to go...

You can buy my 200-4R.. If you still drive it on the street. Im going to put a built 6-spd and see how well it holds together with ~800rwtq or so LOL. If my motor is not screwed that is, if it is... SBC powered 2000 Camaro coming soon...

Lakewood makes a bellhousing for an ls1 and a jerico.
The part# is in the jeg's catalog if you need it.
As far as the clutch set up you will have to probably ditch the hydraulics and go with some kind of manual rod set up like an older camaro would have.
