ummm have you looked in the GTO part of this board? SLP ran a 13.1 in stock others have hit between 13.3 and 13.6. Automatics are even getting around 13.8 My driving and launch sucks .....people like me are why you think the goat is only capeable of 14.0-13.9.

If you wanna compensate for your driving abilities a little, you could get some better tires. I know your car came stock with 245's. Plus the stickiness of stock tires leaves alot on the table. If you wanna stick with stock width, get some nittos, or something similiar. With those, and even driving bad, you SHOULD be able to get a 2.0xx 60'......good luck with it man! Glad to see the GTO crowd getting out to the drag strip......If i were you, i'd get tires BEFORE you go to the drag strip again.....if you do go again, raise the pressure in your front tires, and lower the pressure in the rear. Both by about 5-10lbs(no more than 10 on regular tires). Try slipping the clutch rather than just dumping the clutch.
launch at about 3500rpm....slipping the clutch through first(about the 60'), shift into second, and get out of there!!!
Have fun~!

thanx man thats what I was looking for I kinda wanted to get my launch down before I did anything + this is what I drive all the time so sticky tires may = bad like tearing stuff up .....next time I'll try to slip the clutch longer and lower the rear psi.......when one "slips the clutch" how can I practice this or something w/o going to the track and how will I know when I did it right? besides less spin and wheel hop. or are those my only indicators?

You can get alot more aggressive with tires without goint to Drag Radials or all out ET streets. There are alot of GREAT aftermarket tires with long tread life(Dunlop's/BFG/Falken/etc.)
As far as practicing w/o going to the track:
1)get a gtech or similiar, and with good calibration to your car, they do help fine tune your driving abilities.
2) WATCH YOUR TACH. Practice launching at a desired RPM(2500 for instance), and try to keep your RPM ABOVE that predetermined RPM. Don't let it drop below, but also, don't just let it spin the tires...it's a very finnesse thing you are trying to pull off on stock tires. So mainly it's gonna take practice....You'll know when you do it right, when the car comes out of the hole w/o either Lagging(dropping the revs), and without EXCESSIVE tire spin(some tire spin is ok)....Trust me, the first time it comes out right, you'll know it!
One more thing. If you are planning on playing in your car, as i'm sure you're already addicted like most of us already are, then you need to invest in a shift light. I highly suggest the Harlan shift light. Mainly the ease of install, and the ability to change the desired RPM it comes on at. Also, with the shift light, it makes it more second hand to shift, rather than having to concentrate on when you THINK the right time to shift at.
Good luck!

Tim covered you pretty good and also if you are new to the track dont let the tree intimidate you your R/T wont effect your ET feel when you are ready even if it is green a while then after you get it down then worry about the lights Nittos are a great tire you will like them alot

k I just thought u were saying all the GTO was capable of was the 14.0 or so.... and I was just wanted to clear that with a able driver it can be put in the low 13's now granted SLP's driver was proboaly not your average joe.... I just wanted a time closer to motor trends 13.6 witch I think is relistic with practice...if I can only get my 60 down to 2.1 or lower. With information like I just got from Tim's post I will be able to better myself forsure.
Thanks all
