Default TH400 vs M6 part 2

here is the origanal thread.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-tech/149899-t56-vs-th400.html

OK as an update, the TH400 is really close to being installed. i am going to go to the track ASAP without changing any thing else on the car, just the tranny (i dont have any money to do anything else anyway). i will run several runs to get a good est as to what happens between the two trannys. this will be a test between a stock M6 with good driver setup to a TH400 with just a stall. also no transbrake will be used or even on the car, just footbrakeing it here. i what to see what happens. hehe.

my friend went from a 4l60E to a Th400... and he lost about 2mph... but of course that could account for a change in weather possibly ... not too drastic of weather change though.

assuming teh shifting was on par in the T-56 i would expect to loose more than 2 mph, but more like 4-5 mph on the big end - but also cut down ET.

I didn't see what stall your putting in the TH400?

I did the same thing you did 1.5 years ago. I switched only my M6 for a TH400 with a Yank SS4000E TC. At that time I was running 11.80's @ 118 MPH (cam only + bolt ons) with the M6. I only changed the transmission, I ran 11.40's @ 115 MPH. With the TH400 its much easier to 60' the car than with the M6, the lower 60' cuts major ET off your run. But having a non-lockup converter in there with only 3 speeds, you will have alot lower MPH. But in Drag racing its all about who gets there first!!

I think you going to really like racing the TH400, wait till you see how simple it is to launch the car and how consistant your 60's and ETs are even without using a transbrake.

If a car is set up right a brake wont make much difference, its main advantage is getting a good reaction time for bracket racing, especially with electronics and crossover delays.. I have taken many cars leaving at WOT off a brake and then without it and it made no difference in 60's. If you have tirespin problems and too little PR (or anti-squat, whatever term you choose) sometimes the hit of the brake will shock the suspension hard enough to hook. Its not an absolute rule that you will or wont pick up with a brake, depends on a lot of factors..

I dynod 25rwhp less with the TH350/TP4200 and ran 2.5mph less then the M6 - kinda works out. If you were leaving at 3k with a 3.42 with the M6 an auto will make a huge difference in 60 foot. If you had a 4.56, ET drags and leave at 6500 the auto wont make that huge of a difference. I love the TH350 but I sure miss OD

I would guess you will loose 3mph but pick up .25 (or more depending on your converter) in the 60' compare to your 1.88 - not to mention your 10 bolt will thank you for it

i am planing on useing a transbrake later on in the future once i get a better axle first. if the 10 bolt breaks, i will just have to just keep rebuilding it for now. also on the M6, i have 3.73s and leave at 6K. the tires spin a little bit and then the car gets moving pretty good. i was thinking of letting some air out of the tires to hook better but i didn't want to put the 10 bolt in danger, epecially at the SBSO. all i have to get know it the cooler lines and driveshaft. then i will let yall know.

well just as an update, i finished the swap today and will be going to the track soon this month. the swap was easyier and way cheaper then i thought it was going to be. here is a thread i started on it.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-transmission/155531-going-th400-special-parts-my-ass.html

now since thats finished, i will really be able to see what happens. again, nothing else was changed exept tranny. same gears, same stock TA, tires, every thing. although i will not me able to control the weather but it should not be too far off considering the days we been haveing over here. i will let yall know ASAP.
