Default MT Sportsman Pro comparison

How do these perform at the track? I saw a guy running them on Prostars (they were very soft) and I tried to ask him about them, but he was a complete toolbox and said "Race me and find out!" Dick.

Anyway, how do you think these would compare to a BFG DR or the new MT DRs?

Also, what is a good light radial tire for a 15x3.5 front runner?

Thanks.

i run them on my formula, get good life out of them, but not much street driving except to the track and home. My buddy runs them on his 95 lt1 firebird that has run a 12.20 at 110 mph best with a 1.68 60 foot time on the 26 x 10 x 15 size (roughly 8.5" wide). He get about 7,000-8,000 miles and about 150-200 runs from a set, and he regularly drives on them as well. We have a few other cars in our group that run them as opposed to slicks, and they drive on the road quite nice.

Just my $.02

How would you compare them to say a Nitto or BFG? Better, not as good? Thanks.

The Sportsman Pros are stickier than BFG or Nitto Drag Radials. Very soft tires they hook great on the track.

Could they be compared to the new ET Street Radial, or even a bias ply ET Street? I have new 15" Bogarts and was going to run an ET Street DR, but if these are good enough, I may try them? Also, what Pro Sportsman would you recommend for front runners? 4 or 8 ply? Thanks for your help.

My buddy hasn't tried the et street or the new m/t drag radials yet, but I know these hook better than any nitto or bfg. They also have deeper tread on them but a softer sidewall. I'll check on what front to run with them.

Thanks, I really appreciate it bro. I'm just not sure what Pro Sportsman to run up front. If I'll be okay with a 4 ply, I'll run it for less weight, but if not I'll step up to the 8 ply.

I had a treaded MH 28" tall bias ply, and frankly they handled like crap.

I had a set of I pattern MT's on my old 69Z28 and i was not too impressed.

I have been in fact looking for a second set of tires to run on the street and to try at the track, I already got some new 28x10.5x15 ET Drags put on one of my sets of 15x10 Pro Stars.

I am thinking of MT Drag radials, Nitto DR's, or something else.

So do you think the new MT DRs will outperform the Pro Sportsmans on the street/track? If so, I'll just sit tight for those.

IMO sportsman pro rears are not very good. I used to run them years ago when not much else was available for a street/strip tire.
They chunk off the tread with high power and are a very squirmy tire because of the soft compound and tread design.
The Hoosier quick times are similar looking and perform better.
They might be OK with a low powered combo but there are better choices now IMO.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to go with the new MT DRs in June.

I guess to me if you are going to run a bias ply rear you might as well run ET Streets and get some real traction.

But radials handle so much better.

I am probably going to get some drag radials.

I was advised to run the 4-ply sportsman fronts over the 8-plys John. Hope that helps!
