Default ?? Street car at the track or track car on the street

I have a "Friend" that has a nice quick street car stock bottom end H,C & spray LS1 Camaro with AC full interior and full weight. Runs good at the track (1/8 mile 6.4s) and good on the street. "He" is thinking about putting a nice short block in it to make some good power. Around 700 - 850 RWHP on spray, the question is does "He" leave the AC and full interior in the car or ditch the AC and start taking some weight out to make it a track car that can still be driven on the street??

Well that's obviously up to him lol. Having 700-850 rwhp is one thing, but getting it to hook, and running great times is quite another lol. He should ask himself what kind of times he wants to run first, and weather it's a drag only type car, or just a 99% type street car

^^ no doubt a lot of things to consider sounds like he has a nice little street car hate to turn it into a rattle trap...maybe look for a car to stick the other short block into and build it up

Completely up to him.... I started out with a mint 02 SS 6pd i bought in 05 .. Now it's a gutted th400 swapped caged race car that ill still drive on the street. For me it became impractical to drive the car with kids and all, so I turned it into a drag car. At the end of the day it's my car and ill do as I please with it. A lot of people will give you flack for stripping a car, but it's kinda fun to rock a "drag car" on the streets.

Gonna be up to him, my car is full interior still but has some decent weight reduction. I don't mind pulling weight out of my car, not like they are very nice cars to begin with, plus it's 12 years old. Give me a brand new $30k Camaro and it's a different story.

I think I may keep the AC full interior and try to run some mid to upper 9's for a while and if I get bored and want to go faster I will start stripping it. I bought the car new and it is still mint with just over 74000 miles so it is hard to tear it apart. I have had a roll bar in the garage for a year now that I can’t bring myself to putting in but it guess it's time now.

If it's mint, keep it the way it is. Mine's stripped out and, like said before, it's a rattle trap.

Stripped out street cars are gay. AC is nice, I want it in my street cars, but that is really a personal preference.

Wtf are you guys doing to make your cars "rattle traps"?
You can remove alot of stuff and make your car light
Without "gutting" it! IMO there is nothing better than a
Lightweight car that was done the right way and still
Looks good inside.

this......my car can be as light as 2980 with drag wheels on, no front bar, low gas and cleaned out. It still has everything.....is still my dd. even with the front bar, my 18's on it and a 1/4 tank and normal **** someone has in a car it's about 3050. Nothing rattles, nothing acts stupid, nothing looks hacked. I call it creative weight reduction

all weights are w/o me.

I bought my car new also and refuse to hack it up. Realistically I think there is still about 100lb left it mine.......but that will take some serious work. Probably like a resto mod type of restore to get it all. But a fully functioning 2900lb camaro sounds cool to me.

How hard are you planning on running if? Plan on pulling plugs alot and doing alot of maintenance?

If so that hvac box out, and a manual master really make working on it a TON easier. 750 plus rwhp needs alot of maintenance... If ya need heat you can always put a mojave heater in it, cage will end up making you lose 1/2 the ac ducts anyway....

Easiest way to see if you can tolerate having it gone is to cut the ac belt off and pull the hvac fuses... If you can tolerate that for 6 months then you're ready to ditch it all

So, what all have you done to your car to get it down to under 3000? Just lightweight wheels and no sway bar is gonna take it down that light.

I have had both. And, I am still tempted at times to go full race again. But, the fact of the matter is, the race car got old and got sold. So, this car has remained a fully optioned street ride with no monkey bars.

Lots of little stuff. 200lb falls off these cars pretty easily. My car weighed 3430 stock with a 1/4 tank. I have lightened alot of ****.......some by laying off and drilling.....some by cutting the flanges back....some stuff I've did both. It has full interior but does have race seats...nice carbon ones. Still has front and rear inner bumpers, windshield washer, cruise, ac, full stereo, door bars.......it still has all the **** most take out. I've lightened **** like the pedal ***., rear seat mechanism, water pump, exhaust, battery, k-member, control arms, rear suspension is lighter, clutch is light, hood hinges, coil pack brackets,....etc... been smart about what I bought for it. There a few stones left unturned but the main chassis has never been cut on......just **** that bolts on.
