Best street able drag tranny & gears for A4 4th gen
Just like the title. Blew m rebuilt stock tranny after a 5 months of race and daily use. Not super experienced with this **** and looking for an intelligent opinion on what tranny, stall, and what gears to get for drag racing and summer driving. Thanks in advance.

I know the 4l80e's are a strong trans even in stock form and a 3.50 3.73 would probably be a all around good choice, other people probably know more but this will bump it to the top for more opinions.

Real informative, you really answered the questions I originally asked. I personally think you should go into journalism based on the ridiculous amount of detail in your post. Anyone not knowing what RPM was clearly does now thank to this post

Is the 4l80e the stock A4? Like I said, I'm the king of the scrub club when I comes to trannies.

4L80E swap would be you best option, there should be a bunch of info on here if you try the trans forum. They came in the trucks, I'm not sure on the years and models......You have a 4L60E currently

I prefer the built 4L60 from RPM like said above. That with a 3600-4000 stall and the correct tuning will last forever. The shorter first gear works better in cars under 650rwhp.
I ran one behind my 427ci running low 10's in street trim. After a year of serious abuse it still looked new inside.

Thanks I'll look into RPM (although they built this trans and it broke in a year), but what would you say for gearing? 3.90?

4l80s are a lot cheaper than rpm.I have had both and prefer the 4l80. 4000 stall was more fun than the 3200 and the 3600 imo! Go with 3.73s and if you decide to spray you won't need to change your gear!

Carlyle runs a RPM TH400, easily in the 2800+hp range. I would trust them beyond a doubt. Do a built 4L80e, and never look back. As for gearing something like a 3.50 or even a 3.73.
