Default 26" slicks on 17s anyone?

I'm working on getting into the low 10s as I build my 2000 Z28 and am wondering just how well 17s with slicks or mickey et streets hold up. Or should I just go to a 15?

Always use the tallest side wall you can.

No, get a 15" rim. 17" rims want leave you with enought sidewall.
MT Pro is a 28" tire.

I see no reason why a 275/40/17 hoosier wouldn't get you where you need to be. Obviously a 15" wheel is ideal but I was able to pull a 1.5 60' on a 17" hoosier and hook it on the street.

I'd like a 17 to work. I'm going for a 10 second ride, so it's not like I'm going crazy or anything.

How are those tires on the street? How did you like the wear on them and did you ever get caught in the rain? That's a nice 60ft time.

I never got caught in a down pour but I drove a little on wet streets. Nothing out of the ordinary as long as you don't make any sudden direction changes.

They wore fine for me. I didn't have them on a DD but I drove the car to and from the track on them and around locally. I will be ordering a set for my T/A once I get 15" rear wheels. I currently drive that car on 17" Mikey's though. The MT is a better wearing tire on the street but won't hook nearly as well.

Going to build the motor with a small shot of nitrous.

I'd still go with a 15" rim and the MT 275 Pro.
Years ago , I had 17" rims and the MT DR 275/40R and could not hook. Tire was not tall enough and not enough sidewall.
The 275/40 is a 26" tire and the 275 Pro is a 28" tire.
