Default Probably shouldnt post this but.............

I finally went to the track last Friday to see what she could do after my first round of mods. WIsh I had run it before in stock form to compare but oh well.

Any way, I basically embarrassed my self to no end. I only got 2 runs in before I had to call it quits due to my trans leaking.

1st run:
SLEPT AT THE TREE. 1.5 reaction. 2+ 60ft got me a 14.08 spinning through 1st

2nd run:
NAPPED AT THE TREE. 1.0 reaction 2.0 60 ft got me 13.7 spinning through 1st and second.

I need to learn how to drive, get some DR's and stop trying to launch cause I just spin all day long.

The plus of the evening was that both races were against RICED out Stangs.
These guys had stickers and rims all over their stangs but after running I found they were only stock 4.6's casue I still ended up spanking them, and the announcer was great (my friend was there to hear).

The Stangs both took me 4 or 5 length out of the hole easy but then I reeled them in like the scared cats they were. The announcer kept saying "I think the Camaro has too much motor for that little pony!"

wish I could have heard it.

Any how, Im off to practice driving. I blow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I think I need to practice my reaction then my 60 then get my shift points down with a shift light. I have a good friend with a 01 Cobra that is right on my tail at 13.8 right now and hes fighting wheel hop issues.

Cant let him beat me!!!!!!!

If all goeas well I shoudl be able to get 13.1-2 with no other mods. Then In goes the CAM!

The easiest way I was taught to learn the tree would be to leave when the second yellow light goes out. Of course that's if you're racing on a 5/10 tree. If you start to red light more often then concentrate on leaving when the 3rd light comes on. Unfotunately when you have 3 or 4 different things you're thinking about at the same time the tree becomes your last concern.

Figure out how to launch your car first to get a better 60'. Find the sweet spot. Don't take to much time in the burn out box and stage right away so you aren't rushed when the first yellow light comes on. Most people with little experience that stage late have a tendancy to stab the gas pedal when they see the first yellow and dump the clutch resulting in a crappy 60' time. Relax!

If you red light SO WHAT. Don't be embarassed, you're one of 200 or more cars out there. 99% of people in a crowd at a grudge or test and tune night are more impressed with how the car performs rather then the reaction time. By the time you're at the 1/8 mile, they've already forgotten you red lit. You're not racing for money and you're reputation is deffinately not at stake. You're racing for fun, and you should be having fun.

True dat! I was deffinitely having fun. ANd the adreniline was awsome the first time out. Like I said Ill have to practice. I found a great place to practice the launch before I go back to the track again.

Those 19" rims are killing you... not enough sidewall to absorb the initial "hit" when you let the clutch out.

I had a 98 SS M6 and stock was like 13.7 with a mediocre stick driver (me) and with headers, cats, catback, airbox, lid, filter, stock pulley, no weight reduction I went 13.doh @110mph on a 2.1 back in March of 1999. You should be able to high 12's now.

Seat time...you need lots of practice. You should be running mid 12's with your mods. Don't worry about RT. Shoot for ET. Your mph is a good indicator of the power you're making.

yeah. I know the 19's are killing me. thats why Im going to put DR's on my old stock 17" SS rims next time I go out to the track. But do you think DR's are good enough or do I need ET Streets ( I dont kow much about either tire).

Also the track Im going to is a slight incline (75&80 in MD) and that kinda sucks.

So my reaction time doesnt count against my ET? The clock doesnt start untill I break the stage beam so I guess It wouldnt as long as I dont sit and spin right after the line.

ok so heres my second time slip (just found it).

60ft : 2.1667
330 ft : 5.8647
1/8 : 8.9361
1/4 : 13.7291
mph : 103.1

I spun throuhg 1st and second on this on this one cause I dumped the clutch from about 2500.....

Shouldnt I be trapping 106 or more even??????????????????????

I suck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am hooking up auto tap this weekend just to make sure I am not running poorly or getting random misses or anything.

Again, Thanks for all the input guys. I really want to hit 12.9xxxx before I put this cam in.

Cheers

Your low mph concerns me. Have you had the car tuned? You should trap at least 110mph with the LT's and the rest of your mods.

I usually forget about nailing a good light and choose to concentrate on the launch..unless of course I really want to beat the other guy for some reason.

one of the main problems behind your times is where your at 75&80 is not the place for best et the track is horrible even though the pic in my sig was taken there.. where are you from? we can hook up and get you running right in no time. we got a buddy of mines 02z28 m6 with lid and catback to run 12.93 so i know we can get you in the 12's. i'm about 45 min. from 75&80 so we should be close

I live in Leesburg VA right now but I went to 75&80 because my friend lives right there and its the closest 1/4 mile track I know of. pm me and we can hook up. Where are you at ?

As far as the tune. I havent done anything yet because I was waiting untill after the cam. I have always though the car was a little slow after the MAF and LTs so I ditched the 85mm MAF but I still think Im slow (obviously). I will be hooking AutoTap up very very soon to log some data.

As I said in a post a few weeks ago, my friend with a 2001 4.6 Cobra with only a cold air kit, no cats and 410's walks me in third.

I really suspect the car in addition to my driving because those races were from a roll so not much driving required there except the shift.

Hope I can get these issues worked out soon.

Thanks again guys!

I would go for some drag radials, ET streets will hook better - but will kill your stock 10 bolt. The new M/T drag radials look promising... I'd try and get a set of those on order.

Deffinately get yourself a tune and some sticky tires. With your mods you should be in the low 12's high 11's and trapping over 115. Good luck.
