Light weight driver seat mod, pics
I got the idea from Janzer motorsports, but unlike their inferior driver seat bracket mine is gun drilled for extra weight reduction. Also I left it bare metal for that extra bit of weight savings... The bracket itself comes in at 2#s, and the bracket+recliner+seat is now ~23#. The stock seat was ~35#. Using the predrilled stock make the install pretty easy, about 2 hours total to figure it all out, working slow.
Scott how did you keep the seat back from flopping around when you removed the recliner mechanism?
Here is the bracket:

Re: Light weight driver seat mod, pics
I pulled the recliner off at the setting I liked. Then cut a replacement out of a sheet of aluminum....and of course cleaned everything up with the old handy die grinder. I'll get my pics back up. I forgot to save the changes I made on my pics hosting site so I lost them.
Your brackets are lighter, and hence we're both at 23lbs. The recliner is 3 more lbs if you want to go that far. But you'll never be as light as me with your AC and my light weight driver's mod. BTW, I took the rear bumper support out last night...20lbs.
Is Derek going to have his car ready to go?

Derek should have his car done if he keeps
working on it. Looks like about 20hrs left, fuel system&pcm wiring. He better not run in C2.

You're not closing the gap. I second Derek not running in C2. Re: Light weight driver seat mod, pics
Right now with both seats in the car I'm at a 3420 raceweight, vs your 3275? raceweight.
I'll probably do nothing, but I could do !ac, !catback, and !rear bumper to knock off another 100#. Right now I'm making a new hatch for my firebird just for kicks. If I'm really worried I'll put it on the z28 before bfield. The rules might read no lexan but I doubt they say anything about plywood...

Now that I think about it he might get closer to 3050#s. I hope he doesn't finish.
