Default How to launch a pd blower car

So I took my car to the track. It's an 83 cutlass
Ly6/whipple 2.9/ 4l85/ strange s60. 3.73.
60 ft is horrible ( 2.4 ) can't get any traction out of the hole. Car has ride tech coil overs , nitto 555r. 275/40/17. What's my best bet for a better 60 ft? . I can drive but I haven't spent a lot of time at the track. Just trying to get a little better et. Last run was 11.5@127. ( I let off for a sec , afraid of going under 11.49)

Shouldn't necessary have anything to do with your "driving ability". Your car simply doesn't work off the starting line. That is a chassis issue.......unless you want us to just tell you not to mash the gas peddle to the floor when the light turns green????

...and if that is the case, why are you at a drag strip? lol

I was thinking some 15 in drag slicks . My other question was, can I use something like a 2 step to limit power on launch? My buddy's nova is around 400-450 rwhp and he is running 245/40/17 nittos. He is running 11.7@118. I'm thinking if I can limit power somehow until I at least get rolling some , I should do a lot better. My car seemed to hop off the line until I let off ,then it hooked hard. My rear is fully adjustable , so I'm also wondering if there is something I can change so it will hook better.

This.....Get some real tires, even go 15 inch. I would start there, then worry about the rest. Without doing this first, your going to be chasing your tail.

Ok so what's the stickiest tires that will fit? I would like to go 28 in if I can , since it was bouncing off the limiter going thru the traps

Coilovers that are good for handling are bad for the dragstrip.

A 2-step is for consistency, not to limit power. Once you're moving, you are under full power.

You don't have to go to a full slick. The M/T DR's - even in the 275/40-17 work quite well. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...tem=ETStreetSS

You think the et streets are that much better than the nitto555r?

Get real tires.

Will the car spin if you just mash the throttle off idle? I bet it would. So in that case a 2 step will do nothing for you.

I wouldn't put 555R's in anything but a dumpster.

The ET Street R in 304/45-17 is taller at 28". Should still fit with minimal work.

Judging by the tread design, any wet driving at all is a no-go.

Thank you! I didn't know they came that size. I still have 1/2 or so frame clearance so they should go. Not too worried about the rain, this is my week end toy.

I got 5 or 6 passes on the 275/40/17 et street ss's before I snapped an axle shaft in my 8.5". they were sticking better then I thought they would, especially since my cars a stick.

The 28 inch tall m/t tire that fits the 17 inch wheel would be my first suggestion, if that doesn't do it a 15 inch rim with a bias ply tire would be next, simply so you don't have to redo all the suspension you already bought so it rides/drives nice.

15 inch wheel and a 28 inch bias slick will likely solve all issues, if the m/t radial doesn't.

What are your spring rates? The ridetech shocks probably are not the best for drag racing being that they are a shock more geared towards handling and comfort not saying they will not work just saying they not the most optimal shock choice.
