Default 3.42's w/A4

I have a like-new 3.42 ring & pinion sitting in closet. Is it worth swapping out my 3.23's? Running 275-40x17 Nitto's. boxed lca's, right side airbag, p.s. delete, & disconnected frt. swaybar links, ASP crankpulley. Car is a '02, A4, w/ Dual-Dual w/345 airbox option. What about the gearswap, worth it or not?? Anyone in the know. Thanks. WJ. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

I have an A4 with 3200 vig. with 3:73 gears. I really like the 3:73 gears and you will be a little faster in the quarter. Generally, the higher the gear--the faster the car will be. If you can't go with the 3:73's--go with the next higher gears. The only problem I had with the 3:73 gears was traction--and this was eventually solve with Hal shocks. Gas milage is not affected very much. Best time my car had with your mods was 12.43 on 17 inch Nitto's. If you have any more questions--ASK. I hope this helps.

I just went to 3.42's last week and love them. I also have a Vig3200 TC. If you're not going to get a converter later, you might want to go with 3.73's. Otherwise, you might not have any gains to show for your trouble.

Thanks guys. I'm new to the A4 world. My '99 SS M6 went a best of 12.69, 110.3, w/a 1.83 sixty. Yes, I will be installing a Vig 3200, also, but not before I run this car a few more times w/3.23's & stock converter. I also just got C-line Convo-Pro 15x4's w/165x15 metric skinnies. Hoping they'll help a little. I'm hoping to go maybe 12.8's w/this combo for awhile....What do you guys think?? Thanks & get back. Yeah, I know what you mean about the traction deal. The Nitto's were just o.k. w/3.42's & the M6. Soon as I put the 4.10's in---the Nitto's were useless. Couldn't pull better than a 2.00 sixty. I then went to M&H dot's---305-35x16 w/Firebird take-offs. That's when I got the low 1.80's sixtys. Are you guys running HPP3's, or Ed Wright re-worked, or what?? Get back. Thanks.
