just wondering. one of my lightening friends run his truck very fast using the bigger 16" true slick. i am having problems with my ET Streets (though i only have run it two trips but i have almost 10 passes) to only a 1.72 short time. should i go for the bigger tire? i run the 26x10.50 16" wheel. would i have more sucess with a true slick? should i try that big ole tire? it is on a 16" wheel so the sidewalls are not that big. or should i just keep practicing on my ET streets?

i think i should be at full weight a good 1.60.

The problem is I don't think you can get a slick for 16" wheels. Also, I wouldn't get the taller tire unless you HAVE to. The extra height might hurt your top-end. I'd get a 15" wheel and some ET Drags. That should solve your traction issues for now, and will allow MANY different tire heights, widths, compounds, etc that your 16" wheel does not allow.

Hoosier has a new 28x10.5x16 inch slick just out. I am running them. They work pretty good but are made of the medium compound and not the soft. I will have more results on them in a couple of weeks.

well if they hook decent then it would really help us 16" wheel peoples. my friends gen 2 lightening is hooking pretty well but those guys hook well anyways.

anyone else have these yet? they look great. all us 26" tire guys with 16" wheels have the small sidewalls.
also does anyone think i will have a problem with the tire hitting the car on the launch?

you need to run spacers and clearance the wheelwells as well. Its not too bad though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

i look forward to seeing your results with these tires. is 28" the actual height? or are they a wee bit smaller? sometimes the posted height may vary.

I believe they are exactly 28 inches, not positive though.

it is an actual 28" x 10" slick - i meansured it myself. how come not too many people have tried it out? i know that that compound is not as sticky as the regular hoosers.

Might there have been other variables? Or maybe (without having studied your combo) you were a little overgeared one way and a little undergeared the other?

Regardless, the difference in MPH between 26s and 28s won't be much but there most often should be at least some.

I'm VERY picky about what RPM I cross the line and so I take great care in considering the converter, gears, tire height and growth. Getting it just right rather than pretty close isn't that important to most.

yeah the runs were back to back. 3 runs with 28's switched to 26 for three runs, back to 28's for three runs LOL <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
26inch tires were about 1mph less each time. mph went back up with 28's to around 122.3-122.60....
Weird LOL!

I have the 28x 10x 15's.The 28's gives me what I need with my 3;73's and these suckers hook, even with my stock suspension.
Be careful going to the 10.5 slick, though. That extra .5 is pretty fat and you could have clearance problems.
Also, (I never hear anyone talk about this) make sure that you clean the contact portion of the slicks with some kind of mineral spirits or paint thinner before you heat them up the first time. Sometimes these tires are sprayed with some kind of silicone compound to make them look nice. Better to remove it before you do your first burnout.

Strangely enough I mph'ed the same with both 26 inch tires and 28 LOL
weird hey?
Also my ET was very close too.
