Default U guys have any gains with the TR224 cam or what would i see?

thinking of modding up here soon. But i was wondering if ya'll have any ET's before and after the cam with stock heads?? Im wondering if i could squeeze 3 tenths from it and maybe pull some 11.6's?? My biggest concern is picking up MPH cause these autos suck from a roll <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

but would this cam be good if i do ported heads later on? and i will ocassionaly spray a 75-100dry shot also.

if you have this cam, how's the street manners? idle good?

im just wondering what i would see in a NA car with a vig3600 and all other bolt ons except ls6 intake <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

i can get consistent 11.9's on nittos, but i want to be able to leave easier off the line(save rear) and still hit mid-upper 11's consistent <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> in other words i wanna pull like a mother up top <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I think you'd see a solid 3 tenths at least.

Another interesting candidate if you want top end pulling power would be the new TR 230/224 cam <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

i mean will it be any less streetable?? its gotta be some side effect <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

it'll lope hard but you have a big enough convertor (though it may want a bit more stall) and you can adjust idle speeds and stuff with edit

do you have emissions testing there? that might be the kicker to force you into a 224/224 114

That way you could leave as easy as you wanted and run really hard on the big end.

The cam is a worthwhile mod, but in order to see all the gains it is capable of producing you will have to: leave as hard as possible, run more gear, and probably step up to the ls6 intake.

This is why i say just spray a 150 shot on that ****! The gas = big mph, abiding that lucky #7 doesnt get too inefficient on you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

But, as regards your specific cam questions: yes the 224 will be good with both stock and ported heads.
I picked up a solid 3+ tenths from a cam AND gear swap.
The street manners of the cam will be just fine. With closed up exhaust you will hardly know its there. I run a 226 single pattern cam with full lenghts, an offroad y-pipe, and fully closed borla and the cam doesnt hit hard at all. But, when I open the borla by all means is the cam noticable. The same will be the case with the 224. I dont think it will effect drivability at all.

Good Luck

i thought about running et streets and trying for 11.7-8's NA but i really dont think the rear will hold that. Im not a N20 fan, so i mainly like all motor. I hardly even have the bottle in car.

plus if i let that 150 rip then the tranny and rear would more than likely surely go buh bye <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Mike: im just trying to keep up with ya'lls freak cars <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

so many choices <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

Says who? I've ran mid 1.5's on my 3.42 rear end for over 8 months with no major problems to speak of. We are talking about a4's here, which luckily enough arent too hard on rear ends.

A 224/114 will work well for what you want. Considering that you've mentioned that you don't want to mess w/ surging, etc., I wouldn't go w/ the 230/224. It does hit pretty hard. I shaved off right at .4 in the 1/4 and gained 3 MPH with a cam and converter swap. The stock-internal time of 12.04 @ 111 MPH was with -500' D.A. vs. the time in my sig with the D.A. listed. If conditions were identical, I would've shaved off at least .5 with the cam and converter swap, and that's even holding raceweight constant! I actually weighed 10# less with stock internals compared to my 11.63 run, truth be told.

98TAauto--Step up to the plate and get a cam. Just think of the new times you will get with the NITTO's and the 3600 vig---luckly number 7 do-dad. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> Yes, I believe you will get at least 3 tenths on a new cam of your choice. For the money, the cam is a more cost effective way to gain power than heads---but I know you already know this. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> I believe you would be happy with the new power with a cut-off unless you already have one. My best time with H/C is 11.72 so far. But I believe this fall, the car may run in the 11.50 range. So far car has hardly no weight reduction, but this fall a few things will go to improve times. My car is average and just explaining it as an example to assist in your decision. But I would do it and watch them times come down. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

so stop wasting time <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> and you know that you need to shop around for best price <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> .....and cam <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Cheers

trever: thanks for the advice!

Kent: I would be very happy with consistent 11.6's, but i know if i slapped on the ET streets and hoped maybe i could break the 11.5's or better...

i still have alot left in the stall, but i want the cam so bascially i can make more power uptop <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> my mph sucks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

plus im at 3450 race weight, 3600+ with everything in car so its a PIG!

Dont worry about the rear end. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I am about to sell my 26X8.5 et drags if you are interested. They are the perfect tire for a stock internal car in my opinion.
