How many runs can you get out of a stock 10 bolt? I got about 140..
This includes track time & street.
At the Motown Muscle event a few weeks ago, I discovered from 3 different people, that my posi was blown. I'm doing 1 wheel peels. So I'm not sure what I'm loosing in ET, but my 60's have gone from a best of 1.50, and an average of 1.52, down to 1.60. So I'm obviously loosing something in ET, and perhaps in overall MPH.
I still won King Of the Hill, with a best of 10.9@125, (1.60). Average runs were 11.0.
The car runs fine on the street, so I still can drive it, but it's wounded.
The good news is that the dealer is going to overlook a few things, and replace the posi unit. "This is a onetime deal" Ok, I'll take it.
So I will be able to go to the track & get some runs in to see what, if any I lost with the posi being blown, before I switch to a 12 bolt.
I cant complain about the stock 10 bolt. It's been good to me.

Well I have about 240 to date with 21K miles. But that's starting out stock and building to where I am now ... I'm not hitting quite as hard as you.
So far the rear end is still going strong and displaying no symptoms

Some folks just seem to have good luck with the stock rear, while others can break them just by driving down the street...
I don't know how many runs I had on my 10-bolt when it was replaced with the Moser 9", but it was probably only a run or two from coming totally unglued. There were 3 or 4 pinion teeth floating around that had broken off...

300+ and still going. Half of them in the 1.4 - 1.5 range. I do notice every now and again on video that one side spins more than the other during my burnout and rollout.

I think BradWS6 has the most passes on a 10-bolt that I've heard of. I don't want to throw out a # since it was quite a while back, but I do remember it was something crazy.
My 10-bolt is doing just fine so far (knock on wood). I have right around 50 passes on mine, the slowest 60' was a 1.77. My quickest is a 1.58, and I'm averaging 1.60's right now. I'm hoping that it will last me for quite a while. With as much as I beat on it, I may go in with a new posi at the end of this racing season.

Re: How many runs can you get out of a stock 10 bolt? I got about 140..
No BS here, I had around 800 (I quit counting at 600) passes on my stock 3.42s with an M6 on nittos. My 60s suck, 1.95- 2.05 leaving around 3000 with a 3650 raceweight. When I had 3.73s installed recently, the installer said all lookrd good including the posi. He asked me If I wanted the old 3.42s. I didnt, he said he would set them up for someone used!! Thats no BS. In my 97SS I broke some teeth off the pinion at 34k with around 150 passes.BTW I had 46k on the last set!

You guys cutting a 1.5-1.6 60 on the stock 10 bolt, what are you doing? Dumping it? What tire are you using? My best trap was 115, best time was 12.2 with a 1.8 - i'd love to cut a 1.5-6 and pray that my rear doesn't snap in two, so whats the deal!!??

I had probably 40 6k dumps on ET Streets w/ my stock 10 bolt and clutch.
I went with a 12 bolt and a cartek clutch before anything went out on me though.

but ive got around 150 or more counting all of my passes when i only ran 13's do to 11's
probably 50 1.58 60's up to 1.64's
also i get the one wheel burnout once in a blue moon, but it seems to only happen if i dont back into the water box. One still smokes a little more than the other, but i see alot of cars doing that. Heck some only burn one wheel and still cut 1.5's-1.6's
the A4 rear is alot stronger than we think.. if mine ever goes i might just put a 10bolt back since it doesnt eat up so much power and add weight

your best bet is to get some sticky tires and dump it from 6k, but you drivetrain may not like that.

I got ~50runs w/ 3.42s and another 125+ runs w/ 4:10s on my stock rear. I did blow the posi up once, but that was it. 12-bolt is in now and it makes 6k clutch dumps on 28" slicks alot of fun

Re: How many runs can you get out of a stock 10 bolt? I got about 140..
Well I broke the the posi in the stocker 3 times! I guess i just SUCK I had free replacement every time becuse of my buddy at the dealer. But i was Still getting sick of it. Then the 4.10 pinion gear spit out a FIEW teeth so i said. "i'm done with this POS" 12 Bolt holds up alot better. IMO its like a chain reaction once you break it it was flexed too hard. From there on out its worthless. Well atleast in my case. But i just have all the luck... For what its worth i also never did a TA cover and WAS on 100% Stock suspention. So maby i justt neede a little more stablization. Heck i dont know it just felt like a tooth pic...

I've broken 5 rears (be it gears or posi) in about 150 passes with nothing more aggressive than nittos. Finally I replaced the damn thing with a 12 bolt.

Re: How many runs can you get out of a stock 10 bolt? I got about 140..
Update on the stock rear end: The car sits at the dealer, waiting for the right series carrier to get there. It is being replaced under waranty
There was very little metal powder in there. Everything looked good, except for the posi, which was toast. I will be getting it back tomorrow, & planing some runs in about a week. Hopefully my 1.50 60's will come back. I'll know soon enough if it was the rear end causing the reduction.
I'm still shopping for a 12 bolt, but holding out for the absolute best price.
I'd be happy with another 50 passes on the stock rear. I will be running the Royal Purple 85-140 in there again. I think that provides a good cushion between the gears.
