Default Which will go first? Rear or trans?

I would think it would be best to replace the rear first. When should one replace a trans?

start from the rear.... our rear SUCKS.... the transmissions aren't that bad

I'd say
1. Rear
2. Trans
3. Motor

My t-56 went first due to problems with the hydraulics and poor clutch activity engaging and disengaging. This was a problem that could not be solved at the time because of my power level. Normally I would say to change the rear first and add a 9" or 12 bolt so you can run a slick and launch hard. A stock 10 bolt won't last long with 4.10 if that was the route you were looking at.

Damn. This is not helping. It seems like half had tranny problems first and the other half had rear problems.
I'm talking mid to high 11second passes and I don't live at the track. It is a daily driver.

I wouldnt fidle with the tranny unless it starts to act up. Do the rear so you can cut awesome 60's and not have to worry about busting axles and crap in the stock one. But i would personally just run till something blows. U may have the luck of the draw and nothing could break for a few years!

Cool. That's what I needed to know. That's what I figured too.

I would NOT do the rear first for an A4.. If you had a 6 speed, it would be a different story.
Look at Terry Burger, John Campbell, Scott Jantzer. 10 sec cars on stock tranny/rear. If your an A6, I would just upgrade the gears. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Rebuilt tranny twice, both times with all the good stuff. Stock 10 bolt with 4.10's are still fine.

I have 100 low 11 second passes on a completely stock tranny, no problems yet.

Yeah, but those fellas may be he exception to the rule.
Gears ~$500
TA girdle ~#125

That's $625 + that is literally "blown" if the rear goes. This is money that could've simply been used for a 12 bolt.
I'd rather leave it and hope for the best and have $$ put aside just in case.
