Help out of weight reduction!
I'm out of good ways to take weight off my car!
All I have left is the door bars, heater core, abs module, and stereo. I'll probably ditch the door bars (~10#), but the heater/stereo/abs are going to stay.
I've already done hood, brakes, carpet, ac, 1fan, cruise, battery, seats, etc. Any more good ideas? I was thinking about the hatch but it doesn't seem like a great ! to $ ratio. How much do the stock doors come in at? Maybe some door skins for the track would save 80#? How much do the stock PHB/Control arms come in at?
I'm at ~3230# raceweight right now, or right at 3200# if I take my entire exhaust off. How did Sanders get to 3000# ?!?
PS I ran the 10.98 @ 3300# raceweight.

Re: Help out of weight reduction!
Wow. I'm surprised you're still that heavy. I guess all the little stuff I've done adds up. I'm around 3000-3050 and still have plenty of stuff I can do. I'm trying to figure out how you can be so heavy??? I think 3000 is easy and 2800 shouldn't be a problem at all.
BTW,
LS6 heads are on the way.

Re: Help out of weight reduction!
Scott I've already got 1 LS6 head. Other is on its way.
I don't know why I'm so heavy either! I come in at 200# fully loaded. Really there isn't much left for me to remove. Maybe my car is just portly? How much do your front runners+rims weight Scott? Mine come in at ~25# each.

Re: Help out of weight reduction!
I think my ET fronts on 15X3.5 centerline warriors are around 23lbs each. The 15X10 rears w/26" Hoosiers were 32lbs, and 34lbs with the new 28's. The 15X8.5's w/26's were 30lbs.
Get the tubular chromemoly LCA's (BMR), you'll save some weight there. Or some aluminum since price is not an object. I saved several lbs just be getting rid of my boxed lca's.
I think the door bars are closer to 8lbs each.
Somehow you have to be able to get the catback off at the track. That's the best weight reduction mod you have left I think.
What do you know about the "plastic" fuel tanks? I heard the earlier f-bodies had them, are they any lighter?

99 and up have them. I heard 18#.
Madman has some LCA's and PHB that are 6.5# total (he claims). What do you think stock is, 15# total? I'll try for the crash bars tonight if I have time.

Mike with me in it. I saw your car arrive at MMS this morning. As long as you're putting the duals in why not upgrade to the 229 cam?

Re: Help out of weight reduction!
I like the way you guys pretend to have street cars. I find it to be quite entertaining. Lets see...no airbags and no crash bars in the doors. Oops...almost forgot about the bumper supports. Death Trap Race Team --> Terry is shooting to be the President

Re: Help out of weight reduction!
So here's a good question: Is it better to have a street car that never runs or a race car you can drive on the street?

Re: Help out of weight reduction!
I would rather have a race car than a broken street car.Although at the end of the month i am taking the car to Mammoth,Yosemite and tahoe, then stright to c-bad, maybe get some good times out of the et drags.
Jp98ss, Mine is full weight, leather, all options, bilstein sport susp. But my 67 was a glass front end, lexan, 14x32 9 sec street car i sometimes drove at the track.
