01 LS1 in 91 Z28: TRACK TIMES!!

I took the LS1 91 Z28 to Muncie Dragway last night for some baseline runs. The conversion and buildup of the car is at:
http://www.speartech.com/coproj-1991ls1.html
The weather turned decent so I thought this would be a great chance to see how everything was working. I was happy!
Everything worked well except none of my burnouts were any good. The first run I missed getting in the water. After that I would get them wet, but as soon as I would get them spinning, the car would push forward too much. I wanted a good smokey burnout but never got one. Anyway, I was very pleased with the performance of the car.
I made 5 passes total.
#1) 12.060 115.25 1.800 60'.
#2) 12.151 115.06 1.873 60'.
#3) 11.920 115.14 1.729 60'.
#4) 11.926 115.35 1.754 60'.
#5) 11.921 115.36 1.741 60'.
I think there is certainly more to be had. I have a set of 3.73 gears to replace the 3.23's, and maybe a line-lock or something to get better control over the burnout situation. I've read that the Hoosiers like a good burnout and I could definitely feel a slip and grab with each launch. I had a Grand National about 6 years ago that ran a best of 11.84 and this car is probably going to beat that the next time out! FUN STUFF!!

3.73's and a good burnout with a line lock will get them 60's down to easy 1.6's with that converter. good luck with the car....i used to have a 92 RS (25th anny) and would have loved to see it with an LS1/Yank combo

Nice! You have nearly an identical set-up to me. My car ETed a bit better because my short time was a bit better. With a 1.60 short time, we should both be in the 11.65 range I think!

That is absolutely awesome. If it was black, I'd be asking how much you'd sell it for. I look forward to hearing how things progress.
Good luck!

Re: 01 LS1 in 91 Z28: TRACK TIMES!!
Thanks for the nice words guys! And to 98TAauto, I'm glad I've made a 3rd Gen fan of you.
After looking at the times and MPH of various cars on the board, I've gotta think the 3rd Gens are quite a bit lighter than the 4th Gens. With every run being 115+ with no head work and thru cast iron exhaust manifolds, it leads me to believe it's low weight rather than high horsepower. One guy in a C5 running 12.8's couldn't believe I was running 11's with no headers.
I did get a line-lock yesterday and will try and schedule the 3.73 install next week. Then back to the track.
I will post when I get it weighed.

Re: 01 LS1 in 91 Z28: TRACK TIMES!!
They are SIGNIFICANTLY lighter....
my shipping weight of my 89 IROC-Z with ALL power options and T-tops was like 3350lb
so with driver and all fluids and no weight reductions you're looking around 3600lb, pretty nice if you ask me
