Default Should I race the Z28 or the truck?

Sunday Fontana is having another parking lot "track day". Temps will be in the 90s. Last time out I ran 11.10@121 in the heat. Changes since then are drag brakes, stealth air lid, and I'm thinking about lowering the front of the car down 1".

I can either run the Z28 again in the sun and risk breaking it before the big event on the 28th, or take the truck out and try to break in to the 16's,15's,14's and 13's all in the same day. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Z28 is a lot more fun to race but I'd be pissed if I break it before the 28th. The rear end is making a little noise. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Are you coming out Sunday? IF so I'll defintly bring the Z28. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> I think you ran 7.74@94. I guess the PCM reset helped a bit. Next time let me take a couple passes I bet I can get you a 7.4 1/8th. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

BTW with 4.10s and your ET streets, you should be able to go 125mph in 4th gear @ 6600rpm. Rev that sucker out! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

3.73s would allow 137mph in 4th. What is your rev limiter set too?

Terry,
I would run the Z28. If the event that you are talking about on the 28th is a drag race. It never hurts to practice on the tree and know were you are at the top end.(finish line racing). <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

If you brake, just fix it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> I had to do a little fixing this morning myself.(hanger on the exhaust broke) <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Remember Terry, the truck is the tow vehicle. I don't want to see the Camaro with a tow hitch because you blew up the truck on nitrous.

DA today was 3300', so needless to say I only stayed for a couple of passes. My best was 11.11@122, 1.55 60' time. Last week I ran 11.10@121 in slightly better weather (2500' DA), so it appears my recent mods helped a bit.

RE: my new brakes: I drove the car to the track, and on the way back there was a lot and stop/go traffic. So far the drag brakes work fine on the street. Under ideal conditions they should be worth ~.05th.

RE: The new Stealth lid, I honestly don't know if it helped much at all, but the damn thing is soooo cool looking I don't care. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Terry why not state some facts. What is the elevation on this track?600ft or close to sea level.

Your 3300 DA is alittle off.
If u were racing today around noon on a 600ft track it was 2800.If its a sea level track then about 22 to 2300 ft above.

I bet u were racing at 9/10 which would make your DA even better,More like 1900.Still **** air for sure but not 3300ft air...

All in all I would say u gained somewhere around a tenth for your new set of mods.U have a 10.7??? in the car once u get some decent air.

Still u have me covered and thats ALL u care about anyway....

See ya buddy

I think I picked up .05th with the brakes and 0 with the lid. Next time out at Carlsbad DA should be ~1000' and I'll have my catback off as well.

Cool sounds good!

Looking forward to the numbers with the catback off and better DA.
Good to see people not afraid to run and post their times in the heat!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

JS he's saying you're a cheat and a liar, and your car is a turd... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> JK. I think you're reading too much in to it. He just wants to know how you're running. Why don't you race it anyway?

hahaha JS <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I was asking about your car because you havent posted anything drag related ET/mph, dyno wise in over a month! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I was wondering how you made out with the vibration issue and if you made it to the track thats all. I am genuinely curious about your setup and how it is going to run with the weight reduction you have done. I am sure 10's are there in good air and low 11's in the heat.

I just give Terry props for racing in the heat/shitty air and posting the times. There are other guys on this great "information superhighway" that run 10's low 11's in the winter/fall and post NOTHING from June till September. We all know the cars slow down in the heat so I dont see what the big deal is?

Nobody is going to roast anyone running slower in the heat, it is just a fact of life LOL!

Your car is one of the cars on the site I follow (Along with Terry, OnyxSS, George C, other ARE, MTI, JPR and TR cars etc) Dont get your panties in a bunch consider it a compliment <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Cheers,
Chris

Terry I gotta admit u do tell the truth,MOST OF THE TIME <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> And u got me good with your response.

Chris I'm sorry for being so defensive.
Paranoid I guess?

Anyway the car is fine
The vibration was the 3/4 clutch packs and the snap ring that holds one of the drums down under throttle.

We added the better 7 pack to the 3/4 now and made tabs for the snap ring so it cant let go under high rpm.

I am experimenting with the 4L60E and so far I have had good results.Sure it came apart on us but were getting good info on what breaks and what doesnt. My trans look GREAT inside after 30 HARD runs and now we're confident that we have the trans issues all worked out.

I still need to add a Dennys shaft,The 4.56 causes alittle vibration too along with the Kmember but nothing that bad.

Julio is gonna add the IRL chain to my Cloyes gears this week since its a part that has been a problem for a few guys lately.Better safe than sorry.

Thats it other than to race the car.

I would love to tell u I took a ton of weight outta my car but I really havent. Its right about 3515lb with me in the seat.Sure that a solid 80lbs but it sure aint at 3300 or less like most of cars running these times.

I'm doing great with the Diet.I've lost 40lbs and have gotten down to 315lbs in alittle over 2 months.

Hopefully when the GOOD air rolls in around Oct I'll be about 295lbs <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Good luck with it!

I am getting my car back to a fully streetable state <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Back to the six speed

Stock or 2002 Z-06 clutch (Probably 2002 Z-06 if I can get it cheap enough)

AC back in and fully recharged

Looking at a XE-R 224/224 114LSA .581/.581 lift cam for emissions testing here and better low rpm power and driveability. (Might try something a little more aggressive lift wise)

However I am going aggressive on the gears though. 4.30 gears and posi in place of 4.11s and spool. (I also have a slight bent side axle I need to fix too)
I can still cruise 85mph at 2400rpm and with DR's be killer on the street.

Cheers,
Chris
