H/C shakedown runs: your thoughts please
first off, let me give you a complete rundown of tonight's setup.
GTP Stage 2 5.3L heads, Comp XE-R 226/581/114+2, Cloyes timing set, ARE oil pump, 30# SVO's, LS6 intake, lid, !FRA, ported tb, asp pulley, TTS's through cats, corsa, PT4400, 3.73's, lightweight k-member&a-arms, front Hals w/ drag springs, Hotchkis rear sway bar, sfc's, lca's, lca brackets, torque arm, APHR, rr airbag, skinnies, and 15x8 prostars w/ 26x9x15 Hoosier slicks.
only weight reduction was spare/jack, !EGR, and ! AIR. I also decided to leave the front swaybar on for some reason today. race weight is estimated around 3500-3550
The car dynoed 401rwhp @ a high 6700 with 413rwtq.
the track was not hooking the best that it has before, the A/F was good (o2's in the 890's), but the car was only shifting @6400rpms.
I ran a 11.93, 11.67, 11.60, 11.64, 11.64, and an 11.57 all at 116. Then a 11.53@117, w/ the best pass as follows:
DA: 2339'
60'.... 1.566
330'... 4.680
594'... 6.842
1/8.... 7.326
1/8mph. 92.97
1000'.. 9.601
1/4.... 11.524
1/4mph. 117.20
my current goal is N/A 10's on the stock 346.
things that need to happen before reaching that goal:
- get shift points straightened out
- orp w/ dual cutouts or maybe a trual dual xpipe setup
- ram air kit of somekind
- 4.10's
- put the car on a diet
- advance the cam maybe? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
- much better weather
any thoughts or analysis?
thanks, <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

you peaked at 6700? ouch. id advance the cam at least 2 degrees, throw in 4.10's and pull a little weight. you ran a good ET for the MPH, but i dont think you're seeing what you should outta the combo. shifting past your peak and getting there faster should help...as will dropping the cats.

Looks great Steve.
We just rented out US41 this past Saturday and Rich Andrews from Orland Park was running his 98 Silver Z28. His best that day was 11.49@118.5mph with a stock weight car. I think his 60 ft time was only a 1.59, his car hooks but could benefit from more weight transfer. He has the EGR and front swaybar removed, that's it. It's an ARE H+C, Yank 4400, and 12 bolt/4.10 car.
In any event, I think that weight reduction will help a lot, and some cutouts.
I am not completely believing that your peak HP was at 6700, that would be like a record. I would think that 6300-6400 is more likely. How did that happen?
I think for NA 10's you will need 4.10's and more tire as well.

Re: H/C shakedown runs: your thoughts please
thanks for the feedback and comments guys. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Vince, .585 was I thought I was getting when I ordered it, but the cam card says .581 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
Ryan, the dyno pulls were unlocked. As for
advancing the cam, will this just bring my powerband down some or will I pick up some power too?
Terry, you have TTS's don't you? how far back do you run the cutouts?
Jason, an 11.30 in the summer would be awesome <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
John, I have no clue how it peaked so high, actually on the sheet the peak is 7700, but Izzo said that the Yanks always throw off the dyno by a 1000rpms. plus I don't think the block would of survived a run up to 8100 like the sheet says. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> So thats how I got 401rwhp @6700.
Also John, don't I remember seeing you post with a TTS orp for sale?
later,
Steve

I agree with Terry. Get some dual cutouts (TTS cats don't flow well), raise your shiftpoints, and get some weight out. I think you have an easy 11.30 in the heat after doing this.
Nice shakedown passes!

Re: H/C shakedown runs: your thoughts please
actually, when you dyno unlocked, you show all kinds of crazy rpms. Dyno with the converter locked, thats the only way to see where your curve/peak really is. like PSJ said, its probably only around 6400 or less. going off that, if you were to shift at the high side of 6800 or so and push that limiter out of the way, you'd pick up at the track a bunch. plus the weight thing...that always helps.

Re: H/C shakedown runs: your thoughts please
Is there any way to get the cutouts in before the cats? That would likely help. I would consider an offroad Ypipe as well. Those cats are choking you of 2 tenths easy.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: H/C shakedown runs: your thoughts please
looks like we're going to have to lock it up for a dyno run then. Can you do that via LS1 Edit or do have to hook up a lockup switch?
Chris, Do you really think I can get 2 tenths from an orp w/ cutouts?

Steve
