Like with steel pins maybe. The main mounts would be installed permanently but the cage can be taken apart easily by removing the pins.

I would think you could remove the Wolfcraft bolt-in cage in under 30 minutes without too many issues. May take about an hour or so to put it back though.

I installed the cage (without help) in a couple of hours. Installation takes considerably longer than removing 24 bolts.

IMO, this would be the best way to go, and the unit is very nice!

You would not be NHRA legal though.

Is the Wolfcraft cage NHRA approved?

I would hate to drive around with a cage in the car all the time. 30 minutes to take it out and an hour to put it back isn't that bad.

As far as I know, the cage is NHRA and IHRA approved for down to 10.00.

According to their web site, "6-Point Bolt-in can be made NHRA legal with two weld. The rear bars must be welded to the main hoop."

roll cage would no longer be removeable. Maybe I am wrong?

I too am lookig for a solution. I cannot run around with a permanent roll cage, but a bolt in cage that could be installed or removed in an hour or two would be great. So far I haven't seen one. I am not there yet, but someday, I would like my car to run in the 11's, but it would suck to then be banned from the track unless I installed a weld in permanent roll cage.

Does anyone make an NHRA legal bolt-in roll cage that can be installed / removed in an hour or two???

Well, I think we found a product that someone should manufacture.

I expect my car to be in the 10's in a few weeks and getting kicked off a track is what I'm going to have to do.

Oh well.

You guys have the wrong idea about rollcages. You don't install one to "keep from being kicked out", you install one to save your life. Are you willing to trust your life with some flimsy bolt-in, removable cage?

Think safety first. We like to keep our members!

PS, I've seen a rolled over 4th gen F-body and our roofs are weaker than hell. Lets just say the headrest was pushed down about 6" by the roof. A rollcage would have prevented that.

Tony makes a good point about the safety issue. That's why the NHRA mandates certain safety equipment dependant on et/speed...

As far as a bolt in bar, exactly what are you trying to achieve? You can use an NHRA/IHRA legal rollbar with removeable door bars, so the task of getting in/out of the car isn't an issue. Most likely you will lose the use of the rear seat, though, no matter how the bar is built.

So, what is your reasoning behind wanting a removeable bar? Back seat access, or just having to climb over a doorbar to get in/out of the car?

The thought of having a roll cage in a nice performance/passenger car, TO ME, is amazingly GAY. You can't use the backseat, it looks cheezy and it's not meant to be there.

As Tony mentioned, I do want to be safe, that's the whole purpose of this thread. I am trying to see if there is a quick R&R type. I only plan to visit the track every few months, if that and I'm still looking into this roll cage stuff. So safety is ALL I'm thinking about.

But there is no way I'm driving around with bars all over the car, there small enough inside. Maybe I'll have to install one, run the quarter a few times and get rid of it.

Actually, having a cage is a blessing in disguise. Not having accessible rear seats gives you an excuse to make your slacker buddies take their OWN car when you go out. Less raceweight on cruise night.

I don't like hauling people around in my Formula, and I don't mind driving my own car to meet other people somewhere. Having a 2-seater suits me perfectly.

If you have a custom cage built, like I build mine, you can make it hug the interior perfectly and take up very little room. You cannot see my rollcage from outside the car, its pretty stealth and my windows are dark.

If I didn't need a backseat sometimes, I would have bought a vette!! LOL

I don't even really care that it would be a pain to climb in the back seat with a roll bar installed - 4 year old daughter would think it was cool to climb over / under bars. What I don't like is if I get in a wreck, the solid steel roll bar becomes something my daughter could slam into... Even if it was padded, it would be much worse to slam into than the back of the front seat. Yes she is in a car seat strapped down in the back seat, but in a severe crash, the whole car seat could slide forward some.

I just don't buy that a bolt on roll bar cannot be made as strong or stronger than a completely welded in roll bar. Granted, the bolt on bar might be slightly heavier for the equivalent strength, but it is not impossible.

You guys are starting to worry me that any bolt connection is inherently weak and prone to immediate failure. Therefore, I have decided to get rid of my lug nuts and just weld my wheels directly on. In addition, I have decided to weld my heads to my block - don't want to blow a head gasket needlessly...

If I ever install a roll cage, the first reason would be to avoid getting kicked out, then for added safety, second.

Man, welding the wheels on, and welding the heads to the block - that was probably the best laugh I have had in a while. Thanks for the levity. I know you were just joking of course, but I get the same feeling when you read some of the threads on the internet. Sometimes people can make a simple thing seem like if you use it your car will blow up or something.

Anyway, my thoughts on this are that I would love to have a roll cage in my car just for safety. I too have seen some Fbodies and other cars for that matter that have been rolled and a simple roll bar would probably have saved some lives. Besides, I kind of like the idea of having a cage in my car, except for the climbing over the bar to get in part.

So that was just my totally useless post.

Should just run the 1/8th mile then and compare your 1/8th times to your best 1/4mile timeslip. Seems but if you are unwilling to make the changes necessary to run your car you are stuck with those options.
Chris

ps- taped in Rollbar padding does a GREAT job of hiding the removable pieces of the boltin cage However if they thoroughly check (I have never seen anyone remove roll bar padding LOL) you would be stuck

I don't even need a rollbar now, but if I do heads & cam, I could easily require one. I only run on "Street Night", not any major competition, so maybe a little roll bar padding could go a long way...
