The BEAST is coming along! :-)
Here is some links to check out the progress. I would say we are currently on track to be testing the second week in September. Friggin thing is in the weeds!! The rest of the suspension was delivered today and the chassis should be complete by end of next week. The body comes back off at that point and the chassis goes to get powder coated.
More updates as they become available!

Re: The BEAST is coming along! :-)
The body is just tack welded on right now. Once the funny car cage is completed, the body is coming back off so the chassis can get powder coated. Then final fitment will be done with the body in respect to the chassis. It does look close from the pictures, but the tires have room to "grow" during burnout and passes. From the frame rails to the inside wall of the tires there is about 1-1/2" of clearance which is actually about twice what is minimum requirements. The biggest concern is the upper clearance with the tires getting skinny & tall upon burnout and top end.
No idea what the glide is like yet, I pick it up next week - it's one of Bob Phelps's (AA/A national record holding vette) brand new spares . . . I'll get the info and post it on the glide when avail.

Spencer, are you going to be the driver of that machine? Have you ever driven an 8 sec car before, or is this the first?

Re: The BEAST is coming along! :-)
Well, like your friend, I am my own major sponsor. For three years I can write it off as advertising for my business. The car will be repainted with "Lamination Station Racing" on the doors and my other two sponsors decals will be put on the car (so they can be removed if necessary). My two sponsors currently are Corvette Connection and Breathless Performance Products. I either get extremely reduced parts costs, freebies or labor. Lot's of donated stuff and items that have been sitting around that have not been purchased. Sometimes this is the really good stuff since it was bought and never sold cause it was too expensive . The 4 link, rear section and tires/wheels came out of a pro stock s-10 that was never completed. The motor was only used a few passes in a nasty corvette that now is being turned into the fastest supercharged LS1 on the planet (more on that at a later date, can you say 25lbs of boost?). Once the car is 100% and I have a chance to learn how to drive it, I plan on making a lot of races next year and getting a bunch of seat time. The better I finish next year at every event I go to, the better my chances are at getting a full sponsor. I've got good backing right now, but a full sponsor even on the local level would be nice. Hard work and diligence usually pay off - well, that and good finishes!!

are you planning to get competitive points and division-wise with the car. if so, thats cool. also, try not to bring it down too hard when you tote that first big wheelie past the 60' mark.

Re: The BEAST is coming along! :-)
Okay, let's see, to answer everyone:
Yes, I am going to be the pilot! Nope, never been faster than 10.51 in the 1/4 and that was in this car when the engine blew at 800', probably would've been a high 9 pass. I have raced since I was about 20, everything from dirt bikes to roadracing supersport motorcycles in europe - came back and raced one season here in US and then started drag racing. Started drag racing with a ZX7R and made a best of 10.90@126.
Estimated car weight when finished minus driver (180lbs) is 2350lbs. The 509 is currently being freshened up and I am learning BBC's currently . I don't know the carb size , but it will be a single carb at this point unless something changes. We are going to be using a NOS systems plate and running a 200 shot when we spray it. We are going to be running a throttle stop (my choice) so I can run Super Gas @ 9.90. The NOS will only be used in a heads-up match where we won't be running an index or bracket and also for exhibition passes. Estimated on the motor is low 9's and possibly as good as a high 8. Low 8's on the spray. The tires are 33.5x15-15 GoodYear Eagles. I'm going to use these in testing to see how the car works with them as they were "donated" with the 4 link, rims and rear housing. I'm thinking we are going with at least 4.10 in the rear. The tranny, powerglide, is coming from Bob Phelps and I don't know what the gear ratios are yet - I will know that next week.
I'm learning about running a BBC in something like this and there's a lot to learn!! I must plead ignorance a bit right now as I play "catchup", but I've got great sponsors that are very knowledgable and are keeping this thing on track. I'll post more info by the end of next week and should have more pic's of the full funny car cage in it and it on all four tires.
