Default Typical bolt-ons, TP4200 - help me pick a tire.

Just switched from a Vig3200 and I've got 3.42's. Someone(very knowledgable) suggested a little taller(26.5) slick with the higher stall, but I don't want to lose at the end of the track... Would I?

Suggestions?

TIA

Yes, you will lose some MPH from the taller slick. An all-out slick grows a decent amount on the top-end. I'm running the 26x9x15 Hoosier w/ the 4,400, FWIW.

Along the lines of the tire Trevor D is talking about is the MT ET-Drag in 26X8.5 15. I used to run this tire with stock internals, and feel its alot of tire that doesnt bog the car down in the least.

Trevor - are you running their slick or a QTPro? Their 26x10x15 slick is 26.4" tall. Their 26x9.5 QTP is 26.1. Don't see a 26x9.

Trevor is right on the money. I think the best tire for that converter is a 26x9 Hoosier slick, just because it is right in the size range where it will HOOK and it will not swell much on the topend and it will not kill your MPH like a 26x10 ET Drags and 26x11.5 ET Streets. A tire such as a 26x8.5 ET Drag or 26x10.5 ET street will not hook unless the track has VERY GOOD track prep.

I'm going to change my 3200 out for a TP4400 and im going with the Hoosier 26x9 Drag slick.

Lane, did you trade the Vigilante 3200 in for the Yank4200? I might go that route if they are still doing the trade ins.

I will say this, I can hardly tell the difference on the street... I better at the track tho!

Thanks for your reply - and that's probably the route I'll go. ET Streets have always been hit or miss with me, especially on our tracks... I wanna HOOK!

I've only made a few runs on my Hoosiers 26x9 slicks.. but I'd swear my 26x10.5 ET Streets hooked better. I'm not complete conveinced yet.. waiting for some comparable weather.

That tire was my first choice. It's the shortest(25.9) of all three and I get a better $ deal on M/T's.

But, you hear so many good things about Hoosiers.

Decisions, decisions..

Last time I went to the track I tried out my new(to me) 26x8.5 M/T ET Drags(Mike's old tires). They seem to hook pretty good for me, and my local track isn't known for it's prepping.
I'll have to see how they do after I get my converter in.

Made up my mind. Gonna try out the Hoosiers(26x9's). Hope to run tomorrow night - 1/8th mile.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Lane. I'm sure you know by now that I'm running the all-out slick. You're going to be glad to have 'em with that converter.

Lane, run as little tire as you can get away with. I would say a 26" tall is right but try to stay as narrow as you can, don't carry a lot of tire downtrack if you don't need it. I bet a 9" wide one will work well. If you can borrow a set of 8s from someone, try them out, you may be suprised.

And why I went with the 26x9 on an 8" Pro Star. Now, if I can just get a decently prepped track.

No problem Trevor. Hey, what are you stalling yours up to?
