that is on a 150shot. 405rwhp doesn't impress me. How much boost 12psi?

that means, that because of lower weight h/c ls1 should pull '03 cobra with pulley + bolt-ons...

good news

Nice. My SS just made 538 RWHP with a 75 shot. The motor is setup and can handle a 200 shot. Competition?????? Is that a 150 shot on top of a Supercharger?

Easy, fellas. I was just passing on what I read in another thread. Yes, it's two power adders, but whatever gets the job done, right? An LS-1 owner could take out his stock motor, put in a 422 ci motor, add a 150 shot, and make higher numbers than what this 03 COBRA put out. As a drag racing enthusiast, I respect that.

The nice thing about this car is that it has a stock 8.5:1 compression ratio, forged rods, and forged pistons. The Lightning crowd has been running 50 shots on their motors without any problems for the past few years. The impressive news is that the rods on the Lightining are not forged, so the COBRA motor "should" stay in one piece, even with the 150 shot of N20. This 03 owner's A/F ratio with the blower and 150 shot was at 10.8:1 from 4500 RPM up to redline, so it wasn't starved for any fuel up top, either.

In addition, with the 12# pulley, exhaust, and chip as his only mods, his car only made 405 rwHP. This is very low compared to the norm.

Most 03's with similar mods are making 460-490 rwHP / rwTQ. With a 150 shot, a similarly equipped car should be making 600 rwHP and 700 rwTQ.

Put in a live axle and slicks, and the car should be good for low 10's or high 9's with a capable driver. I think this qualifies as "competition" for even the most highly modified LS-1s. Anyone who can't appreciate this kind of performance, regardless of brand loyalty, needs to get his head out of his ***, LOL.

why not just dump the stock blower and run a t trim vortech? looks like an easy 650hp to me.

Or better yet how about a Xtrim blower.

There are more than a few all-motor LS1s on this board with better power to weight ratios than that cobra has with a blower and a 150 shot...

If it makes 600rwhp and weighs 3666 (200 lb driver), it should be able to run 10's, provided nothing breaks. Not low 10's, but maybe 10.80's. Of course, if it's swapped over to a straight axle, that would save a little weight, lighter driver would too. Anyway, 9's is out of the question unless the car gets a diet worth at least 600 lb. Of course, I like them anyway.

It'll be easy to drop weight in them (just like any other car).
-Back seat: 50 lbs
-Jack/spare: 40 lbs
-Passenger seat: 40 lbs
-Headers/offroad: 30 lbs
-Dyna batt: 25 lbs
-Welds: 75 lbs
-K-member: 30 lbs

Hell, that's 300 lbs right off the bat...and that's not even getting into the hardcore weight reduction stuff. The serious racers will have those cars in the 3300 range with no problems. I'm not saying that's extraordinarily light...but it's definitely light enuff to go fast.

There are several vette's running 10's (and even a few in the 9's) w/ IRS....why can't a Mustang do the same?

I am happy that we finally have some competition.. I have seen a couple of the 03 Cobras on the road and I like the way they look. Whatever it takes to get you down the road is what I say.. I welcome the competition. I just wish I had chose a better set of heads..

Dug, that's what I'm screamin. Basically a built motor from the factory, throw on a centrifugal (Novi2000) and let'er rip. I know on the 99-01 Cobra, a solid axle swap is a good 85lbs lighter right there.

Too bad the ignorance is running rampant in here.

You can't just swap on a Vortech or Novi on these things. What would you do for an Intake? The heads are different than the 99/01 Cobras, and the 96-98 Cobras, so that just won't work.

The cars have been out for a whole 3 months or so. Give them time to get out, get modded, and get run - especially in the cool air that everybody likes so that they can get that 'internet ET'.

Making an intake isnt that big of deal. A lot of 5liter guys didnt even run an upper intake with the blower. Hell, why not just hollow out the eaton blower and use that as an intake. Maybe a whipple blower could be used instead.

I realize it will take some work but what they have here is a ford version of the supra. A motor build from the factory for boost. And whats even better is that it is a v8 instead of a v6 with an liquid aftercooler. Low compression forged pistons, forged rods, forged crank. HD truck engine. It should be able to easily hold 20pounds of boost.

Everyone else is still squabling over whats faster stock the ls6 or this new cobra. Who cares? By the end of the year someon will be running 9's and next year someone will be running 8's with the stock short block.

Yeah it will take some serious drivetrain mods and weight reduction but ****, look at the ls1's. We have clutch problems and a crappy 10 bolt. We have to upgrade them just to reliably run 12's. Also most of the quick ls1's have had at least 500 pounds taken out.

I wish I had the money for a cobra but I dont so

There is a bolt-on Kenne Bell blower for Lightnings making 20+ psi. It and the Cobra blower are essentially identical, with the exception of the location of the air intake. As such, it is likely that a similarly-capable blower can - and perhaps will - be produced for the Cobra.

Yes, an intake can be fashioned....but it won't be cheap, and it likely won't be easy.

I generally don't talk much about fords but the new 2003 Cobra has my attention. I read in a magazine called "Mustangs and Fast Fords" that the 03 Cobra ran a 11.68 with Just a few mods. The mods were a pulley up front for more boost, air filter, skinnies on front and slicks on the back. The reported speed was 119.36 and I believe the sixty foot was around 1.75. Anyway with only these few mods---it seems that anybody would have to be impressed with the new Ford Cobra. It will definitely give some compitetion as compare to the previous years of the Mustangs. If anyone is interested in the article it is on page 170 of the magazine for full details of the car. At the end of the article it states with 4.10 gears, full aftermarket exhaust and chip the car may do 10's. For $35,000 it seems and appears to me the best buy for speed may be the Cobra. I am a Camaro fan and have spent tons of money on my Camaro, but the Cobra has my attention and respect. Anyway no flames intended just passing on some information on the compitetion ahead. Cheers to everyone.

If it's like the supra it should be able to handle more then 20psi. I'd like to see how it handles 22 or even 26psi.
