Where I race, my track is at 2710' elevation in a high desert enviroment (DA can easily reach +6000' in summer at night <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> ). Not the best for ETs, by going to a sea level track, you'll see at least .5 ET reduction and roughly 5 MPH improvement. The track is sometimes decent, other times slippery. I had just bought some ET Streets (26x11.5x16) and have only made 32 passes. First time out with them was at LVMS (SLP Day), now they have roughly 1/16" thread left. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> I have had to do 120 MPH burnouts to hook up at my track (I can easily cut mid 1.7s 60's). My question is, do these tires have to be continueously heated, or can they be run after only one burnout with good results? My typical burnout technique is 5 seconds (or three count after I see smoke) and spin them all the way to the line, then launch at 2800-3000 rpms on my Vig3200. People usually like lining up behind me because I leave a good sticky surface to launch from. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I am going to try launching from idle and no burnout. Has this worked for you guys running at decent (not great) tracks? I'm not sure if this helps, but my 26 x 11.5 x 15 ET Streets usually live for 150-175 passes with 2-3 second burnouts in only 2 gear in the nova. Granted, a turbo 350 won't hit as hard as an overdrive tranny's first gear, but I recently pulled a 1.58 on spray last weekend at super chevy hitting the juice right outta the hole! Of course good track prep is always a factor. I burn my et streets slightly more in the winter b/c of my experience with track temps. My nova usually cuts mid 1.7 60 foots, with the worst being in summer around 1.78. I've never not done a burnout due to the fact I bracket race, and don't want to lose a round by experimenting. determine the length of your burnout by the white letters on your tire.... they should be a lightish brown white color after awhile(not dark brown or even to where there is no color left. the heat of the tire while doing your burnout determines this. doing 10 second burnouts does nothing but hurt your time and decrease tire life. i know its a totally different animal but our top sportsman pontiac cuts 1.13 60 ft's and the letters are a medium brown color. in this area is where we get our best 60ft's. a good rule of thumb if you have a line lock is count to 3 let it go and roll in the throttle more as the car starts to move and carry it to the lights. Do not do a short dry hop after your burnout! all the oils that your bringing to the edge of your tire to make it hook for your launch is being laid down when you need it for launching. just throwing in my .02 cents of our experience. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

So, from what I gather from your inputs is ... reduce my burnout time and I'll achieve similar (if not better) results. As for the line lock, yes I have one and I do the same procedure ... hold the rpms to ~4000 rpms (usually second gear only), turn the line lock off after I see smoke and floor it to the staging point. No dry hops either. I'll ask a buddy of mine to check the color of the M/T letters while I run. I will be also experimenting with idle launches. We'll see if this helps. The track should have a 3000' DA tonight, so I should be able to better the ET in my sig. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
