Just switched my 4.10s out for 3.23s!
Any bets on how much the car will slow down? I'm guessing I'll lose 2-3mph but not much ET. While I was swapping the rears I noticed my stock torque arm was flopping around in the mount that I had bent up. Unfortunately on a A4 it's a big hassle to install a new torque arm mount so I just used a 5# sledge to bend it back. Hopefully it will hold for awhile.
I'll be running some 1/8th mile times Thursday. My best with the 4.10s (+75# heavier) was 6.72@101 1.46 60'.

Terry, reading thru one of your other post you mentioned stock TA set up etc on the TH350.
If you still run the stock TA set up B&M makes a great 'kit' that works on the 9" tail shaft.
9" tail allows you to run stock DS and the kit has the adaptor to put on the TH350 for the TA mount. also it has a little piece that is used on the crossmember. I had to have my crossmember worked on, not bad but had to be done to fit the TH350.
What will you do about the speedo? There are different options with the TH350, if you want more info, let me know.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if the B&M kit will work on the LS1 setups? For speedo I was planning on rigging something up off the wheel sensor.

Should be interesting to see the results
Your converter will feel a little looser. What stall are you running now?
Are you going to run a lockup switch on the highway in third? You will tach ~60mph at 2500rpm with a 26 inch tire and 3.23's
I think with a transbrake and good converter setup you will sixty really well. What first gear in the tranny? 2.75?
cheers,
Chris

Email me about the tranny. RE: my exhaust, I'm running a really quiet dynomax muffler. Right now I have no mufflers on the car though (open headers), and its *really* loud.
PS. Looking to buy an exhaust? You have TTS headers right? I have the ypipe with cutouts built in, ipipe, and dynomax muffler I can sell if you want. I'm going to upgrade to larger headers soon.

I'd be using the 2.75 1st gear, stock torque arm, driveshaft, and maybe even the stock shifter (!!).
I have my catback off so I haven't really driven my car with the 3.23s yet. I'm hoping I can make it through the 1/8th in only 2 gears (it's going to be close), and hoping for more shift extension. With the 4.10s I got ~4000rpm flash and ~5400rpm ext.
My torque arm is kinda ghetto rigged, I hope it holds up Thursday.

Yeah mine will bolt right up, and you have the dual cutouts for track duty! It's SUPER quiet and flows pretty good closed. Open cutouts its as good as open headers. I'm going to switch to those full 1 7/8" headers soon. I can do the dual cutout ypipe/catback for $220 or $125 for the muffler/ipipe combo. The muffler/ipipe slips right over the TTS ypipe.

The exhaust exits the stock location in the back. I can take a digital picture of it tonight, its off the car right now.

Sure. Interested in the cutouts/ypipe + exhaust or just the exhaust? I can throw it in the back of my truck. I'm going to trailer the car tommorow.

Re: Just switched my 4.10s out for 3.23s!
So you are gonna spend the extra $$$ and get a T350/T400 with the deeper 2.75 first gear?
My linear logic says well if we can cut high 1.5's with 3.23's and a stock motor and then cut mid to high 1.4's with deep gears, perhaps a 2.75 first/3.23 combo can still 60ft well since you'll run a 4500-5000 stall anyway. Might not MPH as well as well as it did before, but that would be because of the weaker torque multiplication of 3rd gear?
I do think that the our 3.06 first gear with 4.10 gears has the effect of 4.56 gears off the line and losing that is kind of a bummer. On the other hand we rip thru 1st gear really fast.
Interesting topic!

TCI has a TH350 tranny, brake, 9" tailshaft, 2.75 1st gear for around $1700. That is the frontrunner right now.

Well if you stay 26" slick you can compare yoursel to say BeaSSt's times from last year but subtract the 4.10 gear from their setup, very interesting to see what happens.
Too bad the T350 swap inevitably costs $2500 before selling off your stock parts.
My FLP has been holding up but I don't have a ton of passes on it like you have. Is it your 3/4 clutches?

Re: Just switched my 4.10s out for 3.23s!
My problems have always been with the 2->3 shift. On my last tranny the 2->3 shift clutches were gone (Is that the 3/4 clutch?). I haven't taken this tranny apart yet, but I'm hoping its ok (I'd like to sell it). It's a great setup for low 11 second cars but I think its not enough for my setup.
The TH350 is expensive but you can mitigate some of the cost by using a 9" tailshaft (stock TA/driveshaft). I might also skip the transbrake, as I hear they don't help the 60' much. I'd love to have a TH350 that shifted itself, wonder how hard it is to set that up?
If it turns out I can't 60' with the 4L60E/3.23s, I might consider a 1.96 1st gear glide and 4.30s. I lose all the streetability but I'd also drop 50# and pickup some efficiency in the process.

Re: Just switched my 4.10s out for 3.23s!
TH350 swap shouldn't be anywhere near $2500 w/o the 2.75 first gear. Mine ran around $1750. I'm also still running 3.23's though I plan on swapping the a steeper gear asap.
