Default first trip to track, advice? *results inside*

OK, I owned a '99 v6 firebird for 3 years and it obviously didn't have too much trouble hooking up at the track. My '01 WS6 is stock with brand new Eagle F1s all around, 275/40, so just wondering what the best PSI is to put the tires at and just any other tips to get this LS1 down the track as quick as possible.

I'm running at HRP in Houston/Baytown so I think I've got a little advantage right there already. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Oh ya its an A4, so other than "mash and go" any other tips? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Welcome to the site Nathan.

HRP is NHRA, so I'd...

-wear long pants
-bring a helmet
-bring a tire gauge, put the fronts at 35, and rears at 25
-check the oil, make sure you are full take care of your engine

I'd...
-run the rears at say 25 psi, just go around the water and give them a quick haze and then make sure you are in the groove and stage.
-footbrake (left foot on brake, right on gas), and get the idle speed to say 200-300 over idle, and then stomp the go pedal... excessive spin like say a 2.1 then I would...
-foot stall up to 1000-1200 and roll out fast but not just stomp the gas, I have been able to get essentially stock A4's to 60ft 1.90-2.0 by stalling it up and rolling out so I don't shock the tires.
-F1's last a looong time, because they are like hockey pucks, they are hard rubber. I would not burn them up over and over, they are expensive. I'd just clean 'em up and run. If you get super serious perhaps get a set of Nitto 17" DR's.

-If you have never run before, spend 20 minutes watching folks stage their cars, and watch how they cut lights and also watch how they watch the starting line officials.

I second John's points.
Going around the water and mashing the gas to get a little spin from them is the best prep before launching.
Gainesville Raceway usually hooks ok, but to get 2.0 60 foots I stall to 900-1000 rpm and hit it about halfway down and then roll into the throttle to avoid chirpping or spinning the tires. This is what works for me.
I also have a set of M/T sportsman pros for track use. A buddy of mine that runs them as his regular tires on a 95 formula gets 10-12,000 miles and 200+ passes on a set, and they work great in the rain! Just take a little getting used to with a somewhat softer sidewall.

Good luck!

Derek

13.99 or faster, unless its a convertible, then you need one all the time!

Leave on the last yellow. Dont wait for the green. And if your car is spinning really bad and your reaction times are .8 or above you could even leave on the second yellow light.

Very nice night at the track, best slip is as follows:

(remember I'm bone stock with my stock eagle street tires)

60' - 1.939
1/8 - 8.375 @ 85.42 mph
1/4 - 13.006 @ 106.00 mph

So I think she's a keeper <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Nice times for no mods, so close to 12s <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Did you take out the spare and jack? That may have gotten you a 12 sec timeslip.
