Newbie Track Question
Went to the track for the first time today. Had a blast and I can say I am hooked!!
I made 2 runs, and ran 13.5 both times. My MPH was 96 and 98. I noticed cars running 14.5's and higher getting faster speeds than I was. Why would my car run sub-100's and 13.5 and people 100+ 14.5's?
Thanks guys!

Re: Newbie Track Question
only trapping 98 mph??? what gear are running? was the track not hooking and did you have crappy air?? My formula hit 103.50 mph on street tires bone stock. If you are lifting too soon at the traps, you may be in for a better et.

Re: Newbie Track Question
my 98TA A4 stock was running 13.6 in the heat at 101 MPH on like a 2.00 60'... your MPH is very low... are you sure you arent letting off before you cross the traps for some reason?
my mph goes down when i spin as compared to when i hook so im backwards from everyone else LOL

Re: Newbie Track Question
The weather was nice, 55f I dont remember spinning the tires much, I might have chirped 2nd.
The 2 runs were:
13.52 - 98.05 mph - 2.119 60'
13.59 - 96.0 mph 2.156 - 60'
I ran it till we past the posting signs at the end of the track. Everyone else thought my trap speed was low as well.

Re: Newbie Track Question
don't forget some places have the boards before the finish line, so look for the 3 boxes between the two lanes, and once you pass these, you'll know you've made a full run!

Re: Newbie Track Question
Even with a bad 60' your mph should be at least 103-104. My bone stock Z28 with less than 5,000 miles went 13.6@104. Somethings not right. Are there any obstructions under the gas pedal? I'd remove the floor mats if I were you. Also, you should do the TB bump stop mod which will allow your throttle blade to open fully. Make sure you are at WOT through the finish line too. It may sound stupid but a lot of newbies let off too soon. Good Luck!

Re: Newbie Track Question
Could having alot of weight in the hatch have anything to do with the slow mph? I had a few bowling ***** in the hatch at the track (wasnt planning on running, just going to watch for the first time)
Well, I am going to do some research on TC's/Headers to add to my car.

Re: Newbie Track Question
Actually I had 8 bowling ***** (16lb each) and 2 dumb bells (35lb each) = 200lbs plus full tank of gas. Like I mentioned wasnt planning on running.
Would this have made my trap speed sub-100?
How much does the car weigh to begin with?

8 bowling *****? ha ha, that's even funnier! What in the heck were you doing with 8 bowling ***** back there? I'm surprised they'd fit. Yes, that in combination with that being your first run would definitely produce low numbers.

Regional Pro-Bowler
And who out there could say their car had more ***** than mine?
My car club thought it was funny too. Who knows maybe it helped my traction, lol

Bowling *****? That's awesome.
Just for a frame of reference, my buddy ran a 13.8@108 in his '01 M6 WS6 on his first run while stock. He had about 200 extra pounds in the hatch too...full set of golf clubs, shoes, clothes, etc.
I think you set yourself up for failure. Make sure you prep your car for the track. Remove the floor mats, have 1/4 tank of high octane gas (or less), lower the air pressure in your rear tires and pump up the pressure in your front tires, empty our your glove box and your console. Do a small burnout just to clean off your tires (assuming you're on street radials). Stab in on the last yellow.

Re: Newbie Track Question
...and my car runs like **** on the first run of the night. It's usually 2-3 tenths and 1-2mph slower. The second or third pass is normally my best. It also likes to be hot-lapped.
