Default My findings in weight reduction for the track

I went to Steele on 1/4/03 with everyone else for the big internet race day. Since I saw that the weather was going to be awesome I decided to go all out on weight reduction. I took out the obvious, pass seat, back seat, and that's where I should have stopped. I procceded to take out the following:

sunvisors
front/side plastic kick panels
back sail panels and clothes hooks
loose sound deadener behind the sail panels
rear hatch speakers and plastic panels
rear seat belt assemblies
all the hard cloth in the rear well

My car looked totally stripped, but in actuallity all that misc. stuff only added up to 26lbs

The passenger seat weighed 30lbs, the back seat rest weighed 15lbs, and the foam seat bottom cushions weighed 5lbs combined. If you just want some easy weight reduction for the track I would reccomend only taking out the passenger seat, and then the whole back seat if your really serious.
I'll drop the front swaybar before I ever gut the interior again.

Yes but the 26lbs of misc. interior that I stripped would have still left me in the 12.60's. I might have ran a 12.64 or 12.65 instead of the time in my sig. It took a good 2 hours to take those crappy 26lbs out too. I guess it depends on how hardcore you are

You get faster at taking out stuff everytime you do it. It takes me about 45 min. to take out the following in daylight(lil longer at night).

passenger seats, front and rear
rear speaker panels and amp
sun visors
hatch flap
spare tire and jack

and mount slicks, put on shortbelt and put in special high flow filter element.

I like running my car as light as feasible(sp) because I cant exactly afford a 12 bolt at the moment. Plus, it does help in ET, if just a lil. Best thing for ya to do, like you said, is !swaybar and get some skinnies if you dont have em.

I was there in my 02 Sat. I remember seeing your car there. I have almost the same exact mods as you do and I ran almost the same exact time you did. I ran a best of 12.58 at 114.2 with a 2.06 60 ft time and three 12.6x at high 113's. I am running thru a full exhaust and no weight reduction. How much et and mph and I leaving on the table by keeping my exhaust closed up? I have the pewter 02 hardtop Z28 with the painted TT2's.

Well if you still have cats I'd say 5-10hp, but you do have a catback so it probably flows decent. Still not as good as an open exhaust so maybe 5hp?
Actually you have 2 stock mods I don't have, a 2001+ cam and an LS6 intake
I'd like to get some DR's too, but I'm stuck on the stock 16x8 wheels with khumo's
